I think it’s implied in Opposing Force that a large part of the HECU had some kind of truce with the staff after the Black Ops were deployed.

It wouldn't as the Xen were desperate to leave their world due to the Combine. The Nihilanth would do anything in its power to have its species leave Xen to Earth for the sake of survival. What sucks is that killing it is the only way for the Xen invasion to stop but would mean the Combine noticing Earth.

I love how around 1:25, in just one rare instance, the military doesn't start shooting at Gordon, allowing him to stop fighting them just to kill one opposing vortigant. That AI is either patient, overly concentrated, or just lucky to have allowed this moment of camaraderie.

@@conneath They are. I noticed that right off the bat when I got to the Garg encounter in Blast Pit. HECU soldiers completely ignore Freeman in favor of shooting at the aliens, regardless of what you do.

This chapter was absolutely adrenaline-pumping! The intensity of each encounter between the military and Xen forces really makes you feel like the desperation of both sides to ensure the survival of their species. It really captures how dire the battle for Black Mesa is for everyone on all sides.

Yes, the design of HECU in Black Mesa really shows that they are an elite Marine unit and not some bums as in half-life 1 with regular helmets, not even tactical helmets, but with some made-up PCV that in fact they couldn't create at that time. I like Black Mesa's design, it doesn't have that stupid unnatural PCV, but it has tactical helmets.

Somebody needs to make a mod that’s just black mesa but with the marines being allies and you skip a good chunk of the game in some plane ride or something heading to lambda complex that probably crashes in FAF and basically they help you get there to help stop the mess
