Since you're soliciting suggestions the most insane guitar solo I've heard is by a side project called Liquid Tension Experiment. The song is Acid Rain- Live in LA. Mike Portnoy, Tony Levin, Jordan Rudess, and John Petrucci shredding like a god. The band is exclusively instrumental

No, I know many metal guitarists who haven't heard Megadeth properly at all beyond their 90s mainstream stuff. Metal is a huge huge genre with the most sub genres and cliques of any genre, so it is possible that he hasn't heard these before, especially if he's a black metal guitarist
@Alpharabius992 жыл бұрын
@@njldst2007 cmon. Megadeth is one of the most known bands in metal history. Also the rust in peace is arguably their best album. There is no chance you dont know rust in piece if you know some power chords.
@njldst20072 жыл бұрын
@@Alpharabius99 I get where you're coming from, but like I said, you'd be surprised :-) btw this is not (a) a knock on Megadeth or (b) a statement from my own pov, it's more proof of how varied and huge metal is and how diverse metalheads can be. Scandinavian metal, especially Black metal, is very niche. They are fueled by a very specific vibe and can also tend to be very self-absorbed. I know many hardcore metalheads who go out of their way to avoid the bigger bands as well. None of this is a negative or a positive thing, it's just a quality that I have seen in attending a variety of concerts of shows and interacting with different people of different fanbases

He’s pretty clearly a fantastic guitarist dude. Believe it or not there are probably a bunch of metal musicians out there who haven’t listened to rust in peace or much megadeth in general. It’s a must listen album forsure but it’s not like it the black album popular or some shit, plenty of ppl and musicians just haven’t heard it which is a bummer cuz it rules

Yea, as mentioned, you really need to check out the whole Rust in Peace album. Five Magics is probably my fav track - gotta love the solo over the syncopated riff (third section of the song I think). Lucretia is another fav - melodic & fast. Holy Wars is probably also worth reacting to and should get more views! Nice playing 🎸 [edit] Yep, Good Morning / Black Friday is a banger also.

I was gonna suggest this one and "the conjuring" because those songs I used to jam over on repeat. Wrote so many licks listening to those.
@njldst20072 жыл бұрын
I agree with your reasoning behind the song's structure and what small solos do in terms of the theory of it, but here's a spin on it from the pov you (understandably) had. If you revisit this song from time to time, you'll start to realize that every mini-solo is highly distinguishable from each other, with every lick being unique and well placed in terms of building or bringing down the feeling it was meant to. And that I feel, highlights one of Megadeth's most well-known strengths, their iconic lead guitars. Yes, small solos make it hard to put out something memorable and easy to just make it shred, but that's where guitarists like Friedman and Poland really stand out, their lines are incredibly unique and easily recognizable both in terms of their style as well as to differentiate which song they're in. This is not meant to knock your playing at all, and it's obvious you're just noodling on the fly, but as an example, when you first demonstrated the mini solos in the vid, you basically did the same pattern over three different octaves which while nice sounded like the same exact mini-solo on different pitches, which again is completely understandable. Friedman's mini-solos in this song though, are not similar to each other at all, some build up, some dive down, and the icing on the cake, and this also something that you'll get with more listens, is that Friedman's solos are very different from Mustaine's, not just in terms of their tone and timbre, but their approach to soloing. Mustaine's is a bit more closer to your own actually, the little of which I have seen so far at least, and this difference between the 2 styles makes Megadeth so unique in their approach to lead guitars, it's not just different guitarists, but wholly different approaches, combining punkish attitude pushed to it's highest technical degree with virtuosic melodic shred

This song is better than 'We'll be back'... though some people might not want to here that. 'Five Magics' doesn't get as much respect as other songs on this album like 'Holy Wars...', 'Hangar 18', and 'Tornado of Souls'. 'Five Magics' can be broken down into six sections. The first part is the Into, which is long and melodic, something Dave loves to do. The song speeds up but moves into a classic Blues style Call and Response, with Dave singing the call and Marty playing the response on guitar. That is followed by the longer Marty solo. The middle of the song is lyric driven followed by another Call and Response, this time Dave's vocals followed by the lyrics repeating in a deeper demonic voice. 'Five Magics' ends with a classic Dave solo. Not much more to say other than classic Megadeth. If you like the faster tempo Megadeth, then 'Rattlehead' off first album, with Chris Poland's legato solos, kicks ass. 'Good Morning/Black Friday' starts slow but builds up. It has solos from both Dave and Chris. 'My Last Words' is another great but not often reacted to songs. 'In My Darkness Hours' is another song which starts slow then builds till the end. 'Take No Prisoners' is a song off the Rust in Peace album you should get to at some point while exploring Megadeth. Here are a few 80's metal songs which are personal favorites but don't get a lot of love by youtube reactors... First is Celtic Frost's 'Jewel Throne'. A little proto- Death/Black metal. Then Slayer's 'Reborn'. A short hidden gem within the "Reign in Blood" album. Finally Anthrax's title track to their best 80's album, 'Among the Living'. Charlie Benante, the drummer for Anthrax, never gets the credit he deserves as an early Thrash Metal drummer. Keep them coming.

Stumbled across this video. Absolutely love it! The shredding is great, I just wish it was a little more composed. Nothing against the technical ability, but in a song I think it's better to have something short and meaningful or memorable than extended and technically incredible. Just my opinion.
