I tried finding it but I'll continue tomorrow. Its a documentary I found on KZbin about the beats on Hip Hop how things went more trap and lost the soul in Hip Hop. "Who Stole The Soul From Hip Hop" was quoted in the documentary, a track by P.E.. Melle Mel and other great heads were in the documentary as well. When Premo states about 'pretty music' though, he means how wack beat makers loop a 4 bar or whatever for the whole track, but then he digressed by saying he made pretty music as well but with the Hip Hop feel, the Hip Hop essence. This is that "pretty music."

As a beatmaker, Black Milk is lowkey more impressive to me than some of the other underground kings like Madlib, Alchemist etc. He's from Detroit like J Dilla and it's easy to detect that distinct style of sampling that I still can't always wrap my head around. Most producers sample grooves - Black Milk in his prime was like Dilla, disecting entire tracks to mix and match soundbits from the intro, chorus and outro into an 8 bar loop. Listen how the strings on this beat pop in out of nowhere and fit seamlessly even though in the original sample they're two minutes ahead from a completely different passage. I know it's not rocket science, but compared to how most producers sample - even the greatest - it kind of is. And then I haven't even begun to talk about his drums. Some of his best stuff - the stuff he did with Elzhi - lowkey surpasses the Dilla (RIP) who I know would be proud
