Wild Meat Let's Eat , Here in Western Michigan we start seeing them pop around Mothers Day. That is when the soil is at the right nighttime temp. We just had snow falling a couple days ago but we have had a mild spring so we may see them a little early this year. I will let you know when they pop.

I just got into mushroom foraging last summer east of Atlanta. I found half a dozen growing right next to my front porch after our spate of rain. Guess I won't ever be moving from this house. :D Thanks for teaching me what to look for!

We are just getting Backs in Mid and upper Michigan. My spot for Grays showed some just popping so we left as not to trample any.
@WildMeatLetsEat4 жыл бұрын
Soundslikeagoodplan... best to back out until ya get a little more growth. Those black ones are tasty too!!!! I hope the weather holds for your grays! Good luck and thanks!!

Wild Meat Let's Eat , Some of the blacks had frost bit tips but it is warming from here out and started raining today so they should be popping quick.

PS ticks are very bad this year .

Yeah I hate it when that happens! It also seems to stunt there growth... they don't get as big.

Are other people finding them in your area? I would think they would be starting to pop by now. Thanks for watching and good luck man!

None in Illinois yet, although i only find them after I've stepped on or drove over them with the mower. They lose no taste when after being pulled off my shoe.

Lol!!! Well I hope you find them before you cut or crush them... I've defiantly crushed a few over the years. Good luck and thanks for watching!!!

Hey I'm loving your videos! New subscriber here. Got a question for you. I live in Southern Ontario and have spent the last two months looking around for elm trees in my area. I've probably got 50 spots with live, dead and dying elm trees, and I'm wondering if I should check them for black morels or yellow morels or both? Do you typically see a spot that fruits black morels fruit yellow morels afterwards? Before realizing that there were actually Elms in my area, I found a lot of morels near apple trees and Pine and Spruce. A couple of the live Elm that I knew of fruited morels as well. I'm really hoping that this season will be great! Lots of new spots to check, but like I said, I'm wondering if I should leave those spots for the yellows and check for black morels somewhere else. Thanks, keep up the great work and take care!

Yes check somewhere else... elms typically provide yellows. 50 spots for morel opportunities!! That's awesome. Good luck and thanks for watching!!!!

Yeah I've been bored without foraging, so I just drove around looking for good spots lol. So keep the elm spots for the yellows and look for the black morels around apples? Anywhere else you'd recommend for blacks? Thanks!

@@joet81 black morels... you should try under ash trees I think in your neck of the woods I would check aspens too. I hope that helps.

What part of virginia are you in? Are you in the mountains or the piedmont areas? wondering cause I live in PA and want to know whether to hunt for these in the mountains or the hills
@WildMeatLetsEat4 жыл бұрын
South Western near the Blue Ridge Parkway... So yes, the mountains. I'm sure they're popping in the hills now... but it want be long before the mountains start... they may have already started there too. Good luck and thanks for watching!!!

I never rinse them... only cut in half and soak them for about 20 minutes.... then make sure every drop of that mushroom water is saved. Then sprinkle that water around areas they naturally grow and watch them sprout up the next year if the environmental is right. 🍄❤️🙏🏻

Yes! I have some friends that do the same thing!!! What a great method... it works well. Thanks for watching and happy hunting to ya!!
