I have stage 4 breast cancer and haven't drank alcohol in years. Won't the alcohol in this be harmful to me?
@WildMeatLetsEatАй бұрын
@kathysuleski5835 If alcohol is a challenge, you can use glycerin to make the tinctures. It works just as good.

I believe that mushrooms have enzymes? And if that is the case you’ll kill all the enzymes by baking it above 118F, I might be wrong about it, not about the killing of the enzymes

I'm still trying to get information on where to find these. It's rare but, when I do find them, I have noticed the presents of moss, especially on older oaks. Most of my searches I find Berkeley's polypores instead. Oh pooh. I'll keep looking. But, it's been super dry here for many months!

Hi, thank you for this video. At the end, when you sauteed and ate them, were these mushrooms boiled first? Or just cleaned and sauteed before being eaten? I'm wondering if they should always be boiled before sauteing or not? TY! 🙂

@cynthiafreeman4543 I have never boiled them.... just clean and sautéed. I only eat fresh fruiting bodies. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching.

I found one yesterday on a tree that was solid white, and has quite a bit of moisture. How long does it normally take to ripen?
@WildMeatLetsEat4 ай бұрын
Three or four days, depending on the weather... sometimes a little longer. Hopefully, the fly will stay away until then. It seems we are always racing to beat the bugs.

While hiking on Aug 1st, I found a huge, beautiful, orange mushroom on the side of an oak tree. I thought it might be chicken of the woods. On Aug 3rd, I felt confident to give it a try. I went back to cut off a piece and every last bit was gone.

This is one of the best videos I have watched. It makes me feel more confident in what I need to do when foraging this type of mushroom. But I still have more questions to be answered. Should they be completely orange? The ones we harvested are not.
@WildMeatLetsEat4 ай бұрын
No, not necessarily... each flush will very in their orange color. A younger flush tends to have more yellow or pink/white on the outer margins but changes as the mushroom fully develops. If you go to my channel page, there's a lot of different chicken of the woods vids that should help you understand the different stages. I hope that helps, and thanks for watching!!
