Ever bought a game based on some article in 40 years Old way was mom and pop game store, and electionics dept of general stores had open systems and open copies of every game they sold Mom and Pop stores were also doing buy backs and selling used games before what would become Gamestop ever Did and did game rentals before blockbuster, Netflix,and Redbox ever did. Eventually GameStop, Target,Walmart,etc were told not to display games and systems like that a b roll footage playing of game was broadcasted over TV screens with promo plugs (I just read the box which had good screen shots on box by then)

Black Myth is all the more impressive when you realize that it cost roughly $50 million to make in about five years while Concord cost Sony an estimated $100+ million over eight years. It makes me wonder whether the censorship, red tape and the dangers of moratoriums on publishing games in China are less of a burden on developers than megacorp mandates to pander to activists.

When there's less hangups to developing a game in a country with social credit scores than the good ol US of A you know something is --just a teency bit fishy-- truly effed. How do we get back to having solid western developed games? Well, I see some changes already being made for the better. By that I mean people are waking up and voting with their wallets. In the next few years we'll see more of this. Unfortunately, with long development times we'll also be seeing more garbage activist games coming down the pike too. But, if we hold strong and support devs that actually cater to us then at least by the time the PS6 rolls out we *could* (and should) see a return to normalcy.

Most people will see a few screenshots, a trailer and that's it, and by the way, trailers are usually localized, so unless the company has a really shitty marketing team, what people will really see is, if the game seems fun or not. I am the native Chinese and read the stories of Wukong in tons of versions since a child. What I can only say is the concept of the Wukong story is the most diverse one among all the Chinese literary masterpieces. You know what, Wukong is born from the stone which is used to fix the broken world.... the last stone which was left alone. It is not even given the decisive gender and supposedly it is the most diverse one, no gender/monkey/minority/excluded by all other supreme beings, fighting its way out until becoming one of the gods... how come there are not enough tags for so-called DEI? the funniest part about toms article is that in chapter 3 is where you encounter the first female character in the game wich takes the form of a dragon and a human, aswell as the snake lady in a secret area of the game in chapter 4. in chapter 4 the entire chapter is based around a family of only female spiders that take the form of beautiful women to interract with the player. once again in chapter 5 do we encounter 2 more female characters. so clearly they spent 40 hours in the game and never made it to chapter 3 or chapter 4, i finished my first playthrough in 32 hours. no idea what they were doing for 40 hours in less than half the game.

At this point, if you want to make a game of the year competitor, it's a great idea to make a game that annoys the mainstream, and also the crybabyinc crowd.
