That Erlang in the beginning is a famous demi-god in Chinese mythology, his mother was the Jade Emperor’s sister and his father was a mortal called Yang Tianyou. He has a mortal name called Yang Jian With his talent, Erlang became powerful above most gods, however his mother was punished and sealed under a mountain for uniting with a lowly mortal. He is known for saving his mother by cleaving the entire mountain open with a great axe (the one we saw in the game) and fought off everyone who stood in his way. After that, he overcame countless tasks and challenges and earned a rightful place in Tianting (The Heaven Court), as the three-eye warrior and guardian of heaven at his uncle, the Jade Emperor’s side. Also, he keeps a hound called Xiaotian (name means Howling at the Sky). Sun Wukong always make fun of him, calling him nephew because Wukong is “equal of heaven”, and Yang Jian usually don’t give a Fxxk.

I recommend paying closer attention to the plot and dialogue. The final boss in the second chapter wasn't Buddha-it's clear that some key details slipped by while you weren't fully focused. If you have time, rewatch that section to catch what you missed. Also, if you're stuck on a boss, try looking for clues; often, the solution is something simple and easy to overlook.

The Anime cutscene after you beat the bear is a from the "Journey to the West". Monkey King + Master stopped by this Buddhist monastery looking for shelter. The abbot of the monastery after knowing who they are wanted to see the golden Buddhist robe, that the Monkey King's master had in his possession. It was a parting gift from the Tang Emperor before he set off on their journey. So the Master took it out and lend it to the abbot for one night. But during the night the abbot hatched a plan to burn down the room the master and the monkey king was sleeping in, in order to keep the golden robe for himself. If I remember correctly the Monkey King found out and blew the fire back the other way setting the whole monastery a blaze. This is a famous Chinese fable about greed.

Love your playthrough! The second anime cut scene where the fox turns into a girl to repay the hunter for rescuing her, is a very common theme in Chinese fables/stories and mythology. The other famous one is the snake and a man. In Chinese mythology many types of yaoguai or spirits needs to drink human blood or eat human flesh to sustain themselves. And that is their nature. It is considered a great sin to mess with the nature of things, like marrying a yaoguai as a human. Every living thing has its own destined path to walk, and when you go against the nature of things bad shit happens. At the end of the story the fox girl could not control her urge to drink human blood (probably been cutting back or drink animal blood) and it let to the tragedy of her kill her own family when her hunger took over. IMO its a symbolic way of questioning why the celestial court, is forcing Wukong to be something he is not. All he ever wanted was to live forever with his kind. Not to become a Buddha or deity.

Then the man killed the fox and made warm clothes to wear on his body. The moral of this story is that often people are the true beasts.

Dude I read a lot of Wuxia and Xianxia novels, and that opening is the best depiction of that I've seen. I wish we could get Xianxia animated like this. The live action ones they produce never really invoke the same scale I feel when reading the books.

Plot : After successfully escorting Tang Sanzang and recovering the Buddhist scriptures, Sun Wukong ascends to Buddhahood, but ultimately rejects immortality to live on his mountain in peace. However, the Celestial Court is angered that Sun Wukong would disobey them, and sends an army led by Erlang to force him to return to the Court. Sun Wukong duels Erlang, but is ultimately defeated and sealed in a stone. However, right before he is sealed, Sun Wukong manages to split his power into six Relics, each one corresponding to one of Wukong's six-senses (the same six-senses of Āyatana, a Buddhist philosophy), that are scattered and hidden all across China. Over the next few centuries, the Monkeys of Mount Huaguo would send out a number of young warriors to try and recover the Relics so they can revive and free Sun Wukong. One such Monkey (who becomes known as the Destined One) sets out on his quest to find the Relics. He first heads to the burnt down ruins of Guanyin Temple and recovers the first Relic, Sun Wukong's "eyes", by defeating Black Bear Guai, who apologizes and claims he was forced by the Court to oppose the Destined One. The Destined One then heads to Yellow Wind Ridge where he defeats the Yellow Wind Sage and recovers the Bodhisattva Lingji's severed head. As thanks, Lingji hands over the second Relic which he had been protecting. The Destined One continues his journey to the mountains, where he frees Zhu Bajie from imprisonment and they both defeat Yellowbrow. Maitreya then thanks them for defeating Yellowbrow, who had stolen his artifacts as well as the third Relic, and he gives the Relic to the Destined One. The Destined One and Bajie then journey to the lair of the Spider Demons to find the fourth Relic, but Bajie is captured by the matriarch, the Violet Spider, who plans to marry and then devour him for having "ruined" her centuries earlier. The Destined One rescues Bajie and battles both the Violet Spider and the Hundred-Eyed Daoist Master, resulting in both of their deaths and the possession of the fourth Relic. The Destined One and Bajie continue their journey to the Forest of Embers, where they find Red Boy attempting to steal the fifth Relic from the Bull Demon King. The Destined One defeats Red Boy, who commits suicide to avoid the humiliation of defeat and allowing the Destined One to take possession of the fifth Relic. With five of the Relics now in their possession, the Destined One and Bajie return to Mount Huaguo to find the sixth and final Relic. On the way, they find that Sun Wukong's old weapons and armour have been hidden around the region, so they decide to recover them before the Court can. They then reach the summit of Mount Huaguo where the Destined One discovers that, as the "Destined One", he was also the sixth relic, Sun Wukong's mind, and that his true role is not to revive Sun Wukong per se, but to inherit Sun Wukong's name and powers and become his new incarnation. In order to complete the transmigration transformation, the Destined One is forced to battle Sun Wukong's mindless stone body. Upon the defeat of Sun Wukong's stone body, multiple endings are possible: In the default ending, The Destined One fails to inherit Sun Wukong's legacy, and his body remains trapped inside the rock waiting for a new Destined One. You need an item called Rattle, which can be triggered at three locations. I only remember that one of the locations is on the left side of Shamen Village, near the boss of the Earth Wolf. The sign of the trigger is that the screen will turn black and white.

Nope. You were not fighting Buddha. The buddha was the headless monk (the singer). He took the head after you defeated the rat. You completely missed that cut scene.
