This August will mark 50 years since the recordings of the shows that would give us the Made in Japan album. Without a doubt one of the finest live albums ever. Everyone was spot on at these shows, but when you listen, after all this time, it's absolutely amazing at how good Ritchie was. His solos across the board easily stand up to anything ever recorded and for my money I believe that Child in Time is still the best live solo in the history of rock and roll.

Salud!

+Ceri Jones YES!!! Jimi Hendrix would have chuckled at this. "Sounds like someone we know, huh?" (Jimi on Sonny Sharrock, 1970). Incidentally, Jimi 'n' Blackers shared a Hollywood urinal in 1968 but Blackmore was dumbstruck at his own perceived anonimity and kept shtum. BTW 'Anyone's Daughter' from 'Fireball' was recorded the day Hendrix died - September 18th 1970. Anyone want to release the Blackmore 'Baby Face' sessions with Ian Paice and Phil Lynott from '72(?) or did I miss something?

I listen a lot to classical music - but I also listen to this "type of stuff" - grew up with it - this is "100% authentic" - no studio overdubs - each member of the band firing on all cylinders - Roger Glover should not be overlooked - his bass playing underpins the scintillating work of the others - the result - some of the best live heavy rock music ever captured on tape - may Jon Lord rest in peace - long live Blackmore, Gillan, Paice and Glover !!!!

They had different members, by the 80's90's were pretty bad live.. not really bad bad- but expecting anything like this.. wasn't even close esp. Ian. even the orig member reunion concerts in the 90's. were disappointing.
@jonblackers43396 жыл бұрын
thats not entirely true. Although Gillan most of the reunion years after 1984 struggled and Blackmore and Paice adopted a far more basic approach in the 80's about all of the band performed at great levels during the battle rages On tour in 1993. Blackmore and paicey got back to their versatile playing of the 70's and Lord never dissappointed. Glover was a firm foundation all the time and even improved in the 90's.

It was " watered down " as you put it because they wanted a single to go with the release of In Rock. A heavy version like this would not have gained radio play ( can you imagine Tony Blackburn playing this version? ), so it wouldn't have been a hit. As it was it got to number 2. Kept off the top spot by Band Of Gold - Freda Payne.
