I really love this video and was so happy when I saw it was made about black students on SAS! I wish there was more black vloggers documenting their experience. i really want to go on SASsp2021 and I hope I make amazing friendships such as the ones made in this video.

Thank you SO much for this. I have plans to attend the Spring 2021 Voyage, and I’ve been super nervous because I continuously hear about the lack of diversity on the ship. After being at an HBCU for four years, I can’t imagine returning to an environment similar to my elementary and high school days, so knowing that students of color were still able to find that community really warms my heart and puts me at ease.

This is dope. We didn’t have a BSU on my voyage back in spring 2011, but could definitely used one. Our voyage got a bit interrupted, too, because of the earthquake/tsunami in Japan. We ended up going to Taiwan instead. Love and light from SAS Spring 2011 and one of the last groups on the MV Explorer.

i can't explain how happy I am to learn that there would be people that look like me onboard! If I hadn't seen this, I wouldn't have considered applying.

I was really lucky to be on this voyage!!! There aren't always BSU's so make sure to connect with other black students before you set sail!!! Glad you enjoyed the video ☺

I’m so glad I sow this, I was so worried only white people go on it and I was scared I would be the only black person.

Please do think about it!!! It would have meant the world to us if we had a black professor. on board 👌🏾❤️ The ship definitely needed THAT professor.

I LOVE this video! I plan on going on the spring 2021 voyage this video made me more comfortable. I went to Florida State my freshman year of college and my roommate, who is white, attended the same SAS voyage you did. I knew my experience would be different from hers automatically. Thank you for showing me that there are other POC on the voyage because I honestly thought I would be the only one. Did all of you meet on the voyage or before you all boarded?
@aliayaadventures4 жыл бұрын
We met officially of the voyage but had a group chat maybe 2 month prior. Honestly without them my voyage wouldn’t have been the same ✨ Thanks for watching love

Great video! I have a question about SAS that refers to your video with the cost breakdown and scholarships. I’ve heard you have to commit to the program and submit the deposit before you can apply for scholarships. What if you’re dependent on scholarships to attend the program and you don’t receive any? Do you know if you’re allowed to back out or get a refund on the deposit? Thanks!
@aliayaadventures4 жыл бұрын
If i'm remembering correctly the deadline to receive a FULL refund on deposit is BEFORE you apply and hear back from scholarships. This means you won't get a full refund for your deposit. However, the deposit will be deducted from your tuition so the thousand dollars isn't just for applying to the program. And you also ARE ABLE to pull out after you get news from the scholarships but I don't think you'll receive your deposit back. I hope this helps love ❤

Why do you have to make this about your skin color?
@makenzlymak4 жыл бұрын
Gülbi who started the thing about skin colors? who made us seem different??
@aliayaadventures4 жыл бұрын
I’m confused on why black students can’t make videos about their experiences as black students? What’s wrong with the video? Was anyone offended?
@gulbi27124 жыл бұрын
I mean i got that point and I am happy for her but i feel like you are distancing yourself from everyone I get it you may have had bad experience because of stupid people being racist and a fucking disgusting human but I am living in German my parents have turkish roots my live also haven’t been that easy bcs of that and here I am chilling with my normal friends and not all turkish friends we are in 2020 and even if “white people” started it it’s time that we all work together to connect no matter what skin color and what ethnicity. To the girl that said it’s more than a skin color it is a culture and there are many people out there that have good relationships with people who have a different skin color bcs they didn’t said they were special because of their skin color and just chilled and talked with everyone bcs of their character. You guys should chose your friends bcs of their personality and not their skin color. I just always get the feeling that you guys still tend to kind cut yourself out and i don’t think that you are different your fucking human like we all are and i think most of the world thinks like that nowadays I can’t really say how it is in america nowadays because I live in germany but when I was in America i realized it too that some black people kinda cut themselves off and stayed in their black group tho there where some that didn’t do that. My best friend was super sad bcs he wanted to get to know someone that had african backgrounds bcs he wanted to learn about your culture idk thinks like that make me sad when we judge people by sth so unimportant and i am probably sure that on sas there are probably a lot of XXXs country but they don’t shout it out. It just sometimes makes me sad I have a black family living in my street and i never talked to them or had eye to eye contact and it makes me sad bcs i usually at least say things like good morning or stuff like that to my other neighbors but you barely see them on the street or outside . I know what happend to your ancestors was cruel but also the things that happend to jews was cruel what’s happening to people from iran, irak, turkey in general muslims is cruel but we have to show this people who are being racist or close minded that they are wrong that it has nothing to do with religion, skin color, ethnicity and for that everyone has to work together. Also I am sorry for not using punctuation marks i probably should have but i was just writing in emotions and also their can be mistakes in my english due to it not being my mother tongue
@gulbi27124 жыл бұрын
That’s just my opinion on that topic and I hope it made you reflect your behavior sometimes ( i hope you get what i mean i don’t want it to sound offensive but i don’t know how else to say it in english 😅) idk maybe my comment gets you to think and make you more open minded I think you can be proud that you are a black girl on SAS but don’t shout it out everyone will see the beauty itself when the ship is getting more and more cultural mixed As maya angelou once said “ Each time a women stands up for herself without [...] claiming it she stands up for all women” If you stand up for all black colored people without claiming it without making a big thing out of it with living on the boat and having contact with everyone “ “ integrating” “( idk a better word ) you stand up for everyone of your ethnicity maybe in silence but with power you have to show that it can be a normality if we all work together.

Gülbi when u look up sas majority white people pop up and I just wanted to see more diversity on sas cause when I look at any videos of them it’s all white people . And I wanted to see if the hairstylist could do natural hair considering the boat has majority white people I assumed they could only do white hair.
