Thanks. This is the perfect combination of actual instruction and lecture without all the unnecessary verbosity.

I'm currently learning the chord melody for this piece with my guitar teacher and this video gave me some interesting voicing alternatives. Thanx for posting.

I'd say it changes key earlier, when you have the c#dim, that acts as a A7B9 (built on the major third) which leads you into the dminor. Just my take on it, but that 5-1 is really distinctive for me.

However, It was interesting , broken, cover of the Manha de Carnaval (Black Orpheus is the name of the movie). Thank you so much Martin Garcia

Rolly. to name chords in this fashion. Are you taking a root note and using math or are you contemplating the fretboard with and without your guitar in hand? Or is it a case of testing, questioning yourself with chord shapes until you are familiar? Perhaps its years of playing and just realising this note with that note makes a diminished and this a seventh etc... I find the whole thing a bit of a mystery. to a very limited degree I suppose I understand the make ups. though I always need a minute to figure out what notes I need to add to make chords. There is an incredible wealth of knowledge here on your channel. Congrats.

Hi, Kris, some people, with more brains than me, can just sit with a guitar long enough to figure this stuff out by trial and error. I needed a way of systematizing it, and I ended up studying with teachers and on my own. I think of this system as "infrastructure", like roads and bridges. If you need to figure it out on the run, then it's like you're trying to build your road through the jungle as you go. Better if the road is already in place!! I originally posted the basics of the system, which I learned from Philly jazz legend Joseph Federico, in this youtube video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4TJq36coamigqs Later, Stefan Grossman enlisted me to do a much more expansive version, available at guitarvideos.com .

Learned about half presentation not going to able play this at the local blues jam? so great . Who would be the 2 Classic rock guitar greats that learned this style. Steve Howe Randy Bachman I guess
@djangokeli5 жыл бұрын
Certainly Bachman, who was heavily influenced by Lenny Breau. Steve Howe is great, but I haven't heard him play this style. Andy Summers might be a good choice.

This just hints at the depth of study, intellectual, and physical, and the kind of musical memory that one must posses or struggle mightly ( and probably fruitlessly if you don't possess it already) to attain. Without the dedicated repetivive and iterative study.. you haven't got a chance in hell. Even with it.. most of us haven't anyway.. even if god gave you rythym and soul.. he can also give you the blues... the worst kind.. which is never making it to this level. Some are just wired right.. and get there in their 20's !

Capt Larry: I've spent a good bit of the past 55 years (of teaching guitar) hoping to prove that "nurture" can overcome "nature". I'm afraid the jury is still out. The point you make is a valid one, yet I've seen people with virtually NO natural ability make great progress if they persevere. The requirements are that they love the process of practicing, and that they put in the hours of mindful practice. I'd be a liar if I said I thought the sky was the limit, but I believe most anyone can make great progress. It's a matter of degree. Some guitarists may look at what I do, and think of it as unachievable. Likewise, I look at Pat Martino, Lenny Breau, and many others, and feel the same sense of angst. I try not to let that get in the way of playing music that I love. My advice: Do your very best, with no expectations.

I hate liers whomever they might be. If you want to sell your books , or DVDs , do NOT say you're making a tutorial , here. This very schetchy show off skills and talent is not a lesson . So - state it. Say it is a little of what you have to offer. Now , knowing how sneaky you are , I do not intend to buy you book , cause I might discover that I have to buy some five other products.
