We got her from a breeder in FL. He was breeding cockatoos that are becoming or are endangered ie Hawk's head, red tail palm, black palm. He has since died and his son sold all the birds.

The black palms are originated from new guinea and northern part of Australia. Being in the country where it is originated, I'm so happy to be able to keep one at home. Mine, she came from a breeder and was the only bird that the breeder can produce before passed away. I'm looking for her mate and hopefully be able to breed this magnificent bird. It will be big effort and huge patience to breed this species as this species reach breeding maturity at the age of 20 or so (can live up to 90 yrs)

Palm cockatoo pets seem very rare. It's like they are the equivalent of hyacinth macaw.

Theyre not especially rare in in Far North Queensland, Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. But I would ask Americans to think carefully about buying and keeping Black Palms as pets. One way or the other you're contributing to the trade in exotic wildlife. BPCs aren't meant to live in American houses (or any houses)

I know you rescued this parrot but I really, really wish people didn't keep these amazing and threatened birds as pets.... Idc what anyone says, no parrot wants to live as someone's pet. They want to be free, doing parrot stuff. So sad people feel the need to remove these animals from the wild so some person can have something beautiful to look at.....

Maybe you two feel that she is forced to do this? But no worries, it that's it. Birds, especially parrots, love learning and gladly do these kinds of things. Even more so it there are treats. It's kinda like teaching a dog to sit. :)

You cannot legally keep this bird in Australia as a pet, even though this is where they come from. The only way is if you own a zoo. The reason being that a lot of our native animals were smuggled out of the country in the past to countries such as the US, so the Australian government imposed very strict laws for keeping native animals.
