One thing I want to mention about the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is that despite what some might say, all of the movies follow a consistent moral and theme. Jack is a Pirate, and a good person. In every one of the movies, he has a chance to gain incredible power through some type of magical object, the Cursed Azetc coin, Davy Jones Heart, the Fountain of Life, the Trident of Posideon. In every single Pirates movie, he turns these objects down to save someone else he cares about. Thats the moral of these movies, and its been consistently present in every film.

I like how you describe Barbossa's brief moments of mortality as "tragedy" because indeed, if you aren't looking through the eyes of Jack as the protagonist, it is rather tragic that Barbossa spent ten years trying to become mortal again, only to die a mere five seconds after achieving this goal.

Another excellent video, however there is one small inaccuracy and it is something that seems to confuse many people as they are somewhat similar ships. The design of the Black Pearl is not actually based upon a Galleon but rather another type of large armed merchant ship, the East Indiamen. The design of the Pearl is specifically an East Indiamen of the early to mid 18th century which fits the setting well and would be a relatively common ship for the period, where as the Galleon is a ship more common from the early 16th century to the late 17th century, though Spain would continue to use large Manila Galleons until the very early 19th century. East Indiamen were meant to sail the long voyages to the East Indies to bring back spices, tea, and other goods all while being well armed enough to see off most pirate threats as they would often sail unescorted with these high value cargos. The period for PotC is set between 1727 and 1760 as the reigning British monarch is George II as seen in the fourth film, and at this time an East Indiamen would be a far more common sight plying the seas in this period than the Galleon which the East Indiamen is actually an evolution of.

I think she may be partly based on a real ship, The Adventure Galley which was the ship of real life British pirate Captain William Kidd. In particular, the fact that she had oars they could run out for extra speed and allow them to sail without the wind. Ironically, Kidd set out initially to be a pirate hunter, but ended up going full pirate because he was so terrible at Pirate Hunting

At that range their guns would pierce the Endeavor's hull, not that it would do half the damage depicted (especially the Pearls 12 pounders. Then again the movie Dutchman is approximately twice the size of the real one (and with a miss proportioned stern too. Not to mention those stupid bow chasers). So I guess I can accept that the movie Dutchman could pose a legitimate threat to the Endeavor. I would still bet on the Endeavor if Will is Captain though. And the Pearl would be useless in this fight as depicted. Edit: Oh, not to mention the movie's Dutchman's curse. And the Pearl could threaten the Endeavor in a chase where the Pearl has powerful but slow backup and as such is only trying to demast/slow them so her allies can can catch up. Or if the Pearl is still cursed then she is only beaten by Davy Jones. Even the Dutchman would be helpless against her with out him.

And the Dauntless and Endeavor where Ships of the line (with the Endeavor being a 1st rate. Would need to so some research to figure out what the Dauntless's rate would be, from memory I'd wager either a 1st or 2nd rate). @@hanzzel6086 The Pearl is a galleon. Of a much later model than those of the galleon heyday, but still meeting all the requirements of the class. Indiamen didn't have any specific form, but most were built like an oversized frigate. I'd hesitate to call the Dutchman a fluyt, either. It takes several queues from Dutch ships, appropriate to its name, but lacks the round stern is quite a bit bigger. Bit of a nerd moment: I got into an argument about how in the second movie Jack made the right call turning the Pearl away from the Dutchman because in a straight up brawl the Dutchman would quite literally break the Pearl over its knee. The other person brought up how ships at the time were designed to bounce cannon balls off its side hulls and the Pearl should have stayed and fought. Nah. No way. Nuh uhh. The pearl is a merchantman/galleon hybrid with 12 pounder guns. *The Dutchman is a flyut, a straight warship, with 32 pounder guns. The Black Pearl, less of an actual ship and more of a motif, because back in the old days when shipwrights like myself would create a ship from beams of whatever wood they could get their hands on back then cuz there was less trees around before people planting all of them they found that if you take black walnut oil and saturated into the wood it dyes the wood black or like a really really dark brown over time if you see a Pirate Ship (Dutch East India Trading Company...aka the Black Hand) in museum and wonder what do they treat that with it's like a really really dark colored wood but it's not the type of wood that they used it's black walnut oil, and over time the sea water and stuff probably leeches out of it and stuff but it should be black I think when it comes off the factory floor, and prevents termites, prevents erosion, prevents Crustaceans, and Barnacles, trying to eat the ship it's a very potent oil that keeps any kind of negativity away and can also be used to make black dye for clothes with it, or paint

I find it so stupid that an East Indiaman (and the fastest one at that) would be commissioned under the name "Wicked Wench". Did the company know she would be a pirate ship and christened her with a name to match??? Being the apex of their era of ship-building they would rather be called things like the name of a big town, of a county, of a noble person... something that inspires pride.

Here's an idea: in the hypothetical next movie, Jack and crew get caught up in the American Revolution!

If it is possible make a few videos about more interesting stuff, like the adeptus mechanicus, thousand sons, emporers children, the return of roboute gulliman or about belesarius cawl. But you are still making a very good job. I say that because you are very epic in storytelling.

So... Sparrow's Origin story.. this is new news to me. Always been the good Pirate huh firmly in the light side though he'd have you think otherwise. Even Hector, since he changed so easily once the curse got broken.. NOW that's a worthy storyline to persue if they want a non original cast era in this franchise without killing it. Since it'd make sense to cast a much younger actor as Young Jack. An most the other heroes weren't around yet.

One little detail that almost no body said about it the Black pearl got two ways in propulsion, Canvas and oars, in the chase against the HMS Interceptor.

Sail the seas of the world until the world itself shall end? Nice sentiment. And probbaly true. At least until the invention and widespread adoption of steam powered propellers.
