Yep I believe you are correct. There is an interview with Ren in Rolling Stone UK where they discuss each song on the album and Ren mentions for this specific song wanting to make a beat using just his voice. ❤❤❤

A while back came in late from work, pulled up KZbin to wind down. I’m a Metalhead from the 80’s and 90’s so that’s normally my search. But that night “Hi Ren” was in the 3 spot. I was like WTF! Then I clicked and I was really like”WTF!! Couldn’t even sleep that night. Driving that next day I searched “Hi Ren” and found your channel and have watched your stuff ever since. Completely opposite of you, I grew up in the south where country and southern rock was the norm, so your breakdown of Hank Jr was absolutely brilliant ( I think I was around 14 when that came out) but I hated norm and I hated listening to what everyone listened to. So I really dived into any music that was completely opposite of my surroundings. Public Enemy, NWA, Metallica, AC/DC,Judas Priest, Heck I saw Milli Vanilli and Young MC in 90. I know that you talk about broadening your music palate now that you’re older and I know how you feel Ren is changing “the music standards” through his music and his videos and doing it independently ( and I feel the same way, he’s the first artist I’ve been interested in for many years). So I saw your AC/DC video and to keep from rambling anymore, I would like to see you breakdown a Metallica song( preferably “One, Master of Puppets, Fade to Black”. You talk about Ren and “Flow Changes “, then Metallica is one of the only Rock Bands that you will ever hear a “Flow Change” or “Transition “. And like Ren, their videos where unlike anything of that time in their genre ( if there’s an genre for Ren) the only thing comparable during that time was Michael Jackson. Sorry for the long comment but I’ve never wanted to comment before. Just think you’d appreciate Metallica. Thanks for the videos, you’re my 2 hour drive to and from.

By the way, you mention before that you're running out of Ren's songs to react to. One song that I don't think you've done yet is blind eyed. It's a Sam and Ren song. There are different versions: busking session, studio session, official music video, live version with a collage of diferent performances of Sam and Ren and one featuring an angry car park attendant. If you could do the "Ren - Blind Eyed Ft. Sam Tompkins (Live)" or "Ren & Sam Tompkins - Blind Eyed Ft. Angry Car Park Attendant", that'd be cool.

BP yo bro I think that is a pretty common Beat Box sound/excersize. I mean its been 30+ years since I Beat Boxed but that was a Double Bass Exercise I used to do. Essentiallly "High/Low Bass" using different Diaphram squeezes. I could be wrong but it seems familiar. Bear in mind yo Im 51 so Im talking way back.

loop stations are great for live on the fly sessions. but remember ren does all his producing. all of the samples are easily manipulated in a DAW. no need for loop station when not doing a live preformance....

The first time I heard Hi Ren I was an automatic fan. The fact that was a 1 take blew my mind. What he does with his voice between the different characters without taking a break in between switching is unreal. I didn't think I could love his music any more than I did just from that song. But then the man has to continuously drop references to Lord of the Rings in his songs (here, Down on the Beat, Losing It), there are no words. I am a huge fantasy nerd, so... On a more serious note, I 100% believe that Ren is going to change the way music is made the same way Queen did when they made Bohemian Rhapsody. And for me, Freddie Mercury was one of the greatest musical artists this world has ever seen.
