Like how do you start with a heritage railway I'm 16 and obviously they wont let me on the footplate but even to just be around the locos would be awesome

Apply to become a cleaner at your local railway.

All drivers start off as cleaners . You will be around the locos learning how they work , after a while you'll be asked to train to be a fireman , and things then progress . Most railways will offer a " Footplate Exprience " where for several hundred pounds you will get a trip on the footplate . Best way though is go and volunteer . Some railways have accommodation available at reasonable rates and they would be pleased to see you . Whereabouts do you live ?
