Dear mr. Brendan Bond, The bridge on your 74 P is the original/ period correct one (obvious, because of the slightly oversized bridge saddle screw on the G-string). The two holes you’re referring to are actually there for the metal bridge cover that used to sit over the bridge. Kind regards! 😉

I’m not gonna say for sure that one made its way all the way down to Austin on its own or anything. Or that fender didn’t make some for other stores, but that blue tolex DRRi was sold as an exclusive up here in Canada for years as a Long & McQuade exclusive. Long & McQuade being our version of a music big box store like Guitar Center
