Thanks Heath for the visit, Music is created by the hearts of humanity, and its beauty is self defined without prejudgments. Unlike we who imprint are own ideology and misgivings on others. This videos permissions needed to acknowledge that all the reactors in this compilation self identified as Black reactors and or Reaction channels, which is their right to do so. And thus it was titled as such. Never did the video ever state that ethnicity or color defines how we as a human being reacts to music any differently than an other. That inflection was completely yours my 48 year old white man!, complete with self righteous indignation and prejudgments of people simply identifying there heritage and or ethnicity on their public forum. I allowed you to express your freedom ;of opinion without sensor or review. I would hope you would do the same? Peace and happiness to you and yours Heath. Grant❣

You'd be surprised at how many Black people out there, including myself, love and listen to opera. I was fortunate enough to attend one of Pavarotti's concerts in San Francisco back in the summer of 1984. Sadly, I never saw him in a live opera production but only on T.V. I recall him appearing in, "Rigoletto", on T.V. with a new singer, a young Black woman whose name was Christiane Eta-Pierre, and it was either in the late '70's or early '80's. I often wonder what happened to her. I count myself fortunate to have attended operas featuring Leontyne Price and Shirley Verrett several times (both in San Francisco), operas or concerts featuring Jessye Norman, Kathleen Battle, Marilyn Horne, Renee Fleming, Samuel Ramey, Harolyn Blackwell, etc. I regret that I've never seen Simon Estes in some of his Wagnerian performances. I have seen, "Turandot" at the Dorothy Chandler in the early 2000's, but the tenor's, "Nessun Dorma" was missing something. I was also a supernumerary (non-singing extra) in a community opera production of, "Turandot" in the '90's (Casa Italian Opera). My mom was a chorus member. We started attending live opera performances at the Dorothy Chandler in 1972 on a regular basis, and widened our scope to attend opera performances in San Francisco, Long Beach, Santa Fe (NM), New York (Metropolitan), Seattle (two consecutive years of Wagner's "Ring"), and Aspen (Colo.).

Thank you Diana for the visit, and your heartfelt interaction, I am envious of your life experiences with the classics and opera, It is definitely in your blood. WE do have something in common, my old stomping grounds was the bay area ( Oakland) and have been to the San Francisco opera house, and the Paramount Theater, Have seen Andrea Bocelli, and Sarah Brightman, but mostly symphonies however. I have no worries about the Black youth today, because of the social medias available to them. They have a great sense of adventure, and an inquisitive nature, and are seeking out different genres with anticipation and have their hearts and minds wide open, and an exceptional ear for good music. There will be many more great talents emerging from the Black community contributing to the classics, and Opera. In my book with closed eyes and open ears Leontyne Price is one of the greatest female voices in history. period!!! Health and happiness to you and yours😀🎼🎵. Grant

I had the privilege to see Pavarotti perform live @ the West Palm Beach Auditorium, in Florida, in the late 70's. We were in the back, in the cheap seats, but that didn't discourage us from clapping and cheering, as if our lives depended on it when he finished this song. I'll never forget how we felt, and the excitement of it all. Pavarotti heard us in those cheap seats. He turned and looked at us, in our section, pulled out his big white handkerchief, saluted us with it, and bowed to us!!! We couldn't believe it!! It was fantastic and I will never forget it.

I was raised in a family with concert pianists, opera singers.... there has never been a single time that my throat has not tightened and my eyes well up with tears. I know whats coming and I can still never prepare. The fact that these folks are experiencing him for the first time is such a very rare and beautiful thing to see 😢.

Her reaction to Pavarotti is exactly why privilege and class is not nearly as determinative as we have been lead to believe. His sudden reaction emphasizes the point. Greatness is greatness and know no bounds, no cultural requirements. I would find it not stretch for Pavarotti to be similarly moved by an African choir. Great knows great.

Luciano Pavarotti is one of the greatest Tenors of all time. The aria "Nessun Dorma" (Nobody Sleeps) is the most famous aria from Puccini's opera "Turandot". It's a benchmark aria for the top Tenors because during the final stanzas "Vincero" (I will win) the singer has to hit and hold the Tenor B4 note. I would also suggest listening to the main aria "Vesti la giubba" (Put on the mask) from "Pagliacci" by Leoncavallo. Mario Lanza does an excellent rendition of this aria.

In my early thirties I was the liquor manager for a place called The Galleria in San Francisco where major fundraising events took place among other events. One evening we were told to close the bar down after the dinner and when the musical performance started. I had never of such a thing but I did as ordered and took the staff up onto the roof for an extended break. Jose, one of the bartenders and a classical Cellist, insisted I go downstairs with him to hear this singer. Okay I went and coming down the stairs I heard this voice! Wow it Mr. Pavarotti. Standing on the second floor balcony hidden by the décor but right behind him I was enthralled and then I look over at the sound engineers and they were scrambling as something went out. Mr. Pavarotti took a step back and stepped and continued singing and filled the room of open four stories with a glass ceiling like it was nothing. Then when we opened the bar back up he came up to the main bar where I was working and was holding his throat as if he needed water. Of course, I got him some and as he took it he looked my right in the eye with a grazie and then he turned and entertained the crowd behind him. I went to his performances about six more times and I saw his class way of treating the people around him every time and I was often behind the scenes. The greatest voice I have ever heard and the kindest of men that I have ever seen And in that business and in that era, 60's - 70's I saw quite a few. I was so luck to have heard that voice and still want to thank my friend for insisting that I go down stairs to hear him. Thank you for this. Whew, long winded, huh!
