I found a demo of this song on Limewire, this may've been the one I found in an unmastered form. This is my all-time favorite song. I wish I had Ray Gillen's voice.

Ray Gillen was really great. I remember hearing Badlands for the first time. I still have the CDs. I love them.

I love this era. Seventh Star, Eternal Idol, and Headless Cross are all masterpieces in my opinion.

Most of that stuff has been out of print for some time. Probably a certain Sharon has something to do with it.

Listen all-Ray was a great person and a good soul. He was the original vocalist in our band from New Jersey USA called Quest. He was a genuine human being and success did not spoil him like so many other so called "rock star singers" who could not hold a candle to him or even come close to his vocal talent.

Keep in mind these were demos. How incredible would have these vocals been if they were the final recordings mixed, mastered, released for eternity.

Absolutely Amazing.

He may have been a product of the 80's and therefore lost in the shuffle amongst so many bands at that time, however his vocal style was more reminiscent of the great vocalists from the 70's ala Hughes, Coverdale, Dio, Rodgers and even Mark Farner-who he really liked as well. Ray was the last of his kind for certain!

Ray had alot of Deep Purple , Rainbow and Bad Company in him as a vocalist, but you might want to check out the band that Fredy Aziza has now, which is a totally rocking power trio called "Den Of Thieves" You can see where the inspiration came from in Rays style from watching them and Fredy. Check out "Killing For Love"

Listen to the song 3 Day Funk which ironically had a Grand Funk feel to it and you can hear the influence. Speaking of influences, I would have to say that if is was not for his original amazing guitarist Fredy Aziza and the vocal direction and turning Ray on to better singers, there would be NO Ray Gillen at all.

As great as Ray is in Sabbath I'm so glad he did Badlands, I prefer his vocals in a more blues hard rock environment. Early Ozzy Sabbath had more blues influence too, which I prefer.
@jaysonraphaelmurdock8812 Жыл бұрын
I agree. Tony Martin is a better fit in this band. Ray was a better fit in Badlands.

Incredible song and version with Ray Gillen. This demo, however, is not as clear as the other Gillen demos. Poor sound quality compared to the others.
