There's tons of "Ozzy or nothing" fanboys out there - I'm not one of them, Martin is second only to Dio at the helm of Sabbath. In fact, they've never had a terrible frontman, Jeff Fenholt just didn't fit, Dave Walker was interesting. I really enjoyed Glenn Hughes and Ray Gillen as lead singer and even the Ian Gillan album was cool. Ozzy is Ozzy, of course I like his stuff but he's the original, not the best.

this is the first time i had ever heard his vocals, i am really impressed with his range, Ala Dioesque vocal style, i dont know why nobody gave this talent a chance to branch out, Malmsteen he would be perfect for his style of music, wow im impressed, hands down a great vocalist.
@Grandmastergav862 жыл бұрын
@@fretman09 The more you hear of him, the less he sounds like Dio. That was my initial impression, "Budget Dio" but Tony's an incredible talent and his vocal range was out of this world at his peak. There's a live performance of Sabbath Stones in Eindhoven (very low quality) on YT which is album perfect - it was an astounding performance but sadly he permanently damaged his voice around 92/93.

This album has remained in my metal rotation for decades. The Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath is unique, particularly during the 90’s when this type of metal was overlooked by many. The songs are timeless and the melodies retain that classic Sabbath dark metal gloom, but Tony’s vocals put Sabbath in a class by themselves…so professional, so clean. And Cozy Powell’s drum kit work was the perfect formula with their slow, thunderous tempo. I was fortunate enough to see Tony Martin play with Cozy and Iommi back in the early 90s and was amazed with how loud the show was, but very clean and clear, impressive for sure. Enjoy this classic track and album, and long live rock n roll. 👊🤘

I hold Tony Iommi in very high esteem. I have always looked up to Blackmore, Page, Michael Schenker, and early Judas Priest. But I have to say when it comes to the quality of music written that has accumulated over their entire career span, I think I have to give it to Iommi as the GOAT. Maybe not as the overall best guitarist, but if you factor in all the years with Ozzy, then Dio, Glen Hughes, and Toni Martin then back with Ozzy again. The man did not stop writing great music. It seems like he never took a break. When one singer left, he looked for someone else right away and kept at it. Just amazing. Probably the best style and feeling for heavy music.

This is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. Criminally underrated. Glad there are so many positive voices on KZbin now, giving Martin cred he deserves. Back in the late 90s, you hardly couldn't find any positive comment on internet.

If this was on an album not called Black Sabbath, in 1987, it would have been a very well received song. Deservedly. It is an excellent metal tune, by any standard! Well written, catchy, beautifully played by Iommi (of course), and masterfully sung by Martin! If someone claimed this was the best vocals of any Sab tune... while I'd disagree, I probably wouldn't argue. "Yeah, I respect that opinion!" Lol.

The TYR album is a phenomenal album in the old school metal genre. The song writing is amazing on almost all of the songs on this album. I like the Norse mythology atmosphere saturating the album. It was ahead of its time in terms of choice of a subject matter that would appeal to many fans of the Vikings show today. The lyrics are great and often with a depth of philosophical twist. Masterly sung by Tony Martin. And then there's the music. The compositions are fantastic. Songs are both melodic, advanced - yet hard rocking. And then there's the riffs- the heavyness of Iomi's guitar penetrates all songs. I LOVE the riffs - especially the intro on Anno Mundi. It's so heavy it has gravity of itself. Rythmically perfect to the half tempo heavy beat. So fierce. The sound production is of the nineties off course. How I wish this album would get remastered and finally get the acknowledgement it truly deserves as a gem. And then that it could be found on Spotify. Whoever is blocking for this, I beg them to reconsider. This album is too good to be discarded.

Tony Martin has the range and very cool compression, like a mix of Don Dokken and Ronnie James Dio. Why Sabbath wants to "forget" this era is beyond me. People tell about many popular singers "they are underrated", but seriously he really IS one of the most underrated singers in rock/metal scene. There's a live performance, a few years back and he still sounded amazing and much better than most at that age.

The main reason this era is "forgot" about is because of the record label all of the Tony Martin albums (sans The Eternal Idol) were released by, IRS, was terrible and dealing with the rights to those albums post-IRS has been a pain. Its why none of them have ever been rereleased. Dehumanizer (which was released by IRS in Europe) did get released but I think that was able to happen because it got released by a a different label in the US. There was suppose to be a Tony Martin box set coming out this year but nothing really new has been talked about it since Tony Martin was given the go ahead to confirm it in January.

Masterpiece, one of my favorite songs. Doesn't sound Black Sabbath but who cares? It's a great song, period. Great voice, riff is crazy.

One of their best for sure. It's a brutal shame we don't get to hear this live in 2018.

Its so sad that Tony lost his voice, he was a really great singer. He lost all his high range, which is so very sad.
