@@Thomasmemoryscentral I'm really glad you found this awesome episode of Black Sabbath! I love the original lineup with Ozzy, and Dio brought his own element into the mix. Born Again with Ian Gillan is one of my favourites because it created a fantastic album out of two worlds! If you haven't listened to Born Again do so!!! The total lineup change when Tony Martin came in was a smash hit here in Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia, but there were zero marketing apart from MTV... sigh. Should've been a much greater episode if it had been marketed, like they say in the video here... And later when Ozzy came back and they reunited (apart from Bill Ward sadly) the Tony Martin era was kept hidden by forces (read; Sharon Osborne...) but finally Tony & co are able/allowed to re-release the albums - and I WISH do a couple one off gigs?! Headless Cross is such an awesome track - and with phenomenal drums by the one and only Cozy Powell!!! (R.I.P.) There's something excellent from all the different episodes of Black Sabbath and arguing who's better etc is pointless because they're all different and that's the great thing about them all! Rock on dude and have an awesome day!!! 🤘😁🤘 p.s. Even Rob Halford fronted Black Sabbath back in 1992 when Dio refused to play on the same venue as Ozzy... Interesting but perhaps more of a footnote... ;)

@capnkaba
@capnkaba 8 ай бұрын
That’s actually what sparked this current resurgence of the Tony Martin content: the fact that they _can’t_ do a new album. At least under the Sabbath name. According to Tony Martin, he and Tony Iommi actually did discuss the possibility of recording some new songs and rereleasing the original Martin albums, similar to what they had done with Dio. However, as it turns out, there’s apparently an agreement that any *new* music created under the Sabbath name can only include the original 4 members. They can, however, rerelease any Sabbath music with any lineup, which is why we’re getting a Tony Martin box set at the end of May.

The Eternal Idol was reissued a couple of years ago. The Tony Martin albums apart from that one are being reissued in a boxset at the end of May 2024 so the rest of the discography will be easy to find and purchase. The Dio albums were never difficult to find, and I also bought Born Again and Seventh Star very easily. The issue with these Tony Martin albums were the record labels they came out on, particularly IRS for Headless Cross, Tyr, Forbidden and Cross Purposes. It went bust in 1996. That was the issue with the rights to these albums, nothing to do with Sharon Osbourne. She doesn't own the rights to the Black Sabbath name. If she did own the name, Black Sabbath would have continued with Ozzy fronting it and any backing musicians they wanted. It would not have continued with Iommi.

Finally the reissues of these masterpieces got released!!! I hope that The Eternal Idol, Born Again and especially Seventh Star will be reissued and rediscovered by Black Sabbath fans.

All of these three albums (Born Again, Seventh Star and Eternal Idol) are available - and they were released in digipack packages in recent years (these releases included live recordings as bonus or Eternal Idol early takes by Ray Gillen). However in case of Born Again, I suppose there might be new re-relase as master tapes were finally discovered and major remix should be done for new release.

@petrcejka2125 You're kidding, they found the masters?! I hope they don't try to stick too close to the original Spin̈al Tap-era mudpie mix. I'm used to it by now, but it really deserves a reworking.

I hate to admit this but I have a HUGE void in my collection. I didn't grow up listening to Black Sabbath. I only heard it if friends played it and it was only the Ozzy stuff. I definitely like that more than his solo stuff. Then I finally heard the "Heaven and Hell" album and was BLOWN AWAY! Then I found out that there were other singers and when I checked some of those songs out was even MORE blown away. I hate that I didn't get to enjoy these growing up but I at least get to enjoy these for the first time.

It happened in a time when Metal was in complete transformation but somehow has been forgotten but is so well done and M. Iommi kept B.S. alive and did it so well. Thank you Thank you Thank you. This song is literally my first memory of a song ever. I was born in 89 (when the album was released) and I still remember putting the record to play, siting down on the floor and just listen to it. I guess I was probably 5yo back then. I had no idea what heavy metal was, or what Black Sabbath was.....or even Ozzy or Tony Iommi / Martin. This was literally the album that introduced me to metal without me even knowing. I still own that record by the way (was my father's)
