Met Vinnie on a flight from San Diego to Florida along with Ronnie Dio both nice guys very outgoing. We had a great conversation in Dallas on a layover. Ronnie even got me seats on the floor for his show in Hollywood, Florida just a great memory. I was in the Marines back then 1982 or 1983.

Thankful that they played clubs in the 90s, because I was able to see them up close, and met them afterward! This was when Jeff Pilsen was on bass and Tracy G on guitar. All of them were the nicest guys, especially RJD, and signed autographs. Of the many times I’d seen Dio, that show was the best because of Pilsen’s harmony vocals with RJD. It took it to another level!

Vinnie was spot on when he said in the 90s, bands started looking like the roadies! I agree completely with Vinnie--there needs to be a balance between what the hair metal guys were doing and grunge, where there was no stage presentation at all, You can entertain an audience without just being "all show and no go", but at the same time, don't go to the other extreme where you don't try to entertain at all--and the bands that came before--AC/DC, Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Rainbow---they struck that balance

It's funny how I grew up admiring Carmine as my drum teacher had taken lessons from him so he was the God of drumming to his students. Fast forward 35 years and as a middle aged dude, I've come to the conclusion that I like Vinny's drumming waaaaay more than Carmine. Vinny also seems like his ego is in check and is down to earth whereas big bro Carmine could never really stay with any band longer than 5 years. I like this guy and he's a great drummer, definitely one of the top 10 all time rock drummers.

@@the_minimalistic_adventure Yeah, I totally feel that too. I just look at the track record and the fact that he could never really keep a gig other than King Kobra. He lost the Stewart and Ozzy gigs both due to his 'I'm the star' attitude. Vinny seems like a team player too where he doesn't need to be the start but know he's an important part of the band. Is hard to explain but he seems like he has good energy.

I stood right at the stage and he walked up and shook my hand a couple of times and thanked me for coming out . A few months later they returned to Charlotte to open for Portnoys band . He saw me standing across the street and got off the bus and walked over to where I was standing . He said " Hey man you were at the last show we played here ." He hung out with us for a while took pictures and signed stuff for us . For him to remember me like that was amazing . A super nice and genuine guy .
