Heaven and Hell is a great song from Black Sabbath from the 1980 album of the same name. What makes it for me is the fantastic bass and riff, not forgetting the fabulous vocals of Ronnie James Dio. He was the vocalist for Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow for a time, you reacted to Stargazer, if you remember, guys. He had some great solo albums too, a couple of my favourite songs from them are Last in Line and Rainbow in the Dark. All the lyrics of Heaven and Hell were written by Dio. He said in an interview that the song is about each human being's ability to choose between doing good and doing evil, essentially that each person has 'heaven and hell' inside themselves. The last verse - They say that life's a carousel, Spinning fast, you've got to ride it well, The world is full of kings and queens, Who blind your eyes and steal your dreams, And they'll tell you black is really white,The moon is just the sun at night, And when you walk in golden halls, You get to keep the gold that falls, It's Heaven and Hell. Thanks so much, guys, I'm so glad you love this song as much as I do! I appreciate your reaction so much, take care now.

@@TheInfurnos Great minds think alike, Mike! It's a great song isn't it and as George says, it's in three parts. What makes it for me, as I said, apart from Dio's vocals, is the bass running through the song, it's fab! Re Rainbow, I see that your favourite is Man on the Silver Mountain, have to say mine is Stargazer, both great songs.

Ronald James Padavona aka Ronnie James Dio (1942-2010) started singing in 1957 during the days of Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. His grandmother saying that he is a gift from God (Dio in Italian means God). But his widow disputes this claim. He joined groups and bands from local areas in New York. There are audio clips from his early stuff on here, KZbin. In the 70's, RJD join band called Rainbow fronted and founded by Ritchie Blackmore of Deep Purple fame. After Ozzy fired by Black Sabbath, RJD hired by the band from 1979 to 1982. He left Black Sabbath for his own band, Dio. Then years later, he rejoined with members of Black Sabbath for new band named Heaven and Hell. During this time, RJD continue on with music until he was diagnosed with stomach cancer, I think.

Hey guys, love your reactions, I try to catch them all! Now, about Sabbath with Dio. I personally don't think the band was ever the same without Ozzy. Whatever he contributed, as soon as he left you can hear the difference...not BAD, but NOT what I consider Black Sabbath. I don't fault anyone in the band for the change, Ozzy did FINE on his own, but the songs with him were just on a whole different level. I think it was more than vocals...as he showed as a solo artist, there was something he contributed in the writing, the production, everything that stood out and made Sabbath great. I still respect Tony, Geezer, and Bill as musicians, but without Ozzy they were just not the same. Enough said!
