The true is we all love Brad Wilk and he seems like a great guy and he is an insane drummer from another legendary band ! But as a fan we would all love to see Bill Ward playing the drums on that record...

I never used to think much of him when he was just with Rage Against the Machine I knew he was pretty badass and then he was a talented drummer but I didn't think you'd make it this far I didn't think nearly 20 years later I'd see him play for Black Sabbath dude's definitely earned his star and he's probably up there with one of the greats of our generation that's for sure

Brad is just a super chill guy. He seems to be the only member of RATM that kind of stayed grounded without any bullshit and shit talk. He just stuck to his job as an (incredible) drummer throughout his entire carreer and that is all that matters to him. Keep on doing your thing Brad, you're awesome!

You're a dumbass. He's definitely political like Zack and Tom. Even Tim. Also RAGE has always been political, their entire catalog is music about social/political issues. So Brad himself knows what he got himself into, and supports the cause. Not a drummer staying out of politics.

Man, that had to be one of the most thankless gigs in music history. Good for Brad for keeping a sense of humor about it, and good on Geezer, Tony, and Ozzy for making him feel welcome. (All that being said, it's hard not to think 13 would've been better with Bill Ward's swing on it.)

And, apparently, the contract was unacceptable because it didn't include a full spot on tour. They wanted to record with him and then just have him do some guest spots on tour, and he said no. It was all or nothing for Bill. But Bill has had a long history of heart related issues disrupting tours. He could have had his name on the album and been a part of that, but he chose not to be involved.

Watching the Live Aid clip was an amazing blast from the past as I was watching it then at home waiting for a young lady to come over to pick up her wallet as I had found it and called her. Bill's memory is pretty shot after all his drug and alcohol problems, Ozzy and Tony said in interviews about it that "Bill couldn't even remember how to play the songs...he'd have stick-it notes all over his kit with notes helping him remember what to play."
@idontmind5815
@idontmind5815 3 жыл бұрын
Yikes! You know it's bad when Ozzy says it. I remember watching The Osbourne's and most of the time Ozzy was so fukt up on heroin or morphine that he could barely form a coherent sentence. He was mumbling out "words" and walking like a zombie. It's a goddamn miracle that he's still alive, but the same thing can be said about a lot of rock n' roll legends from that era. Brad Wilkes was a good replacement for Bill even though it wasn't permanent. Sabbath has had a plethora of bandmembers coming and going over the years.

i totally agree with rick when he says that theres drummers who can play the metal, but there arent a lot of drummers like that who can play the jazz and the blues while bringing a heaviness to them like Sabbath does. I'm glad they didn't bring in some big well known metal drummer who goes crazy with double bass, cause i just don't think it would fit, i was pleasantly surprised to hear how well Brad fit in and i can't help but think what a great replacement he was on the album :)

He talked about that on a recent podcast (I think the podcast was Let There be Talk). IIRC, there was some inter band stuff going on between Ozzy and Tony, where Tony offered Brad the touring gig without asking Ozzy, and that created some conflict that led to Ozzy reneging the offer.

Exactly. And it is what common sense should have told people instead of them jumping all over Sabbath screaming about how unfair and cold there were with Bill. Why would people assume these things? It made me angry reading comments like that. Bill rules. Its ok to be 60 something and not able to play like he could in decades past. It happens. He set the bar so high in the first place. Respect all around. I think both Wilk and Clufetos have done very well filling in.

That's very true. Ozzy can only barely sing anymore, and his memory is shot too. However, reading lyrics off of a screen is infinitely easier than relying on randomly placed sticky notes reminding you how to play a huge concert drum kit. It's been 8 years since Bill was "Sluggish" as you say. Sabbath never disappointed their fans as I can recall and I highly doubt that their lifelong friend and founding member of the band not being included had anything to do with money, unless you have proof.

Bill is irreplaceable, but Brad did a awesome job in the drums in this new record. I hope he stays in the band forever. The question is not to put Vinnie Appice in the band or any old Black Sabbth drummer of another formations of the band... I think that sometimes, you have to do some changes and use someone that is really ready to not just seat with the guys in the studio, but go out with them and make an big world tour. Bill was not ready to do this things anymore because of his health.
