I sat next to Ray on a flight from LAX to NY. Had no idea who he was until a week later when I saw him on MTV. We talked the entire flight. He was so down to earth and friendly. I was a metal head at the time, but grew up in an area with no TV Chanel’s or cable. I knew bands/songs but not names and faces of most musicians. He never told me he was in the bands we talked about. 😂 RIP Ray. 🙏🏻

This song was written for the movie " nightmare on elm street " the original in 1984. Wes craven asked tony to compose the soundtrack. This fell through when his manager asked for a large sum of money. Bummer!

I'm here bud, and Ray was a friend of mine I drove him to rehearsals with Rondinelli the band he was in right before SAB. i witnessed some of the most amazing live singing no auto tune....shit sometimes just belting it out with no mic!! I was in the Rondinelli house as Ray called to say he had joined Sabbath...a crazy moment since Rondinelli was seconds from signing a major deal. you can find the album on youtube its great...a year before I was sitting out front of the rehearsal space on a rainy day hitting some good green with him and Ray told why he became a singer....he described the rain and church bells of the first Sabbath song he ever heard and how it changed him.so even tho it really destroyed a strong chance for Rondinelli to go national and beyond ,they were a solid powerhouse band but it was perfect he ended up singing his first song he heard from SAB and made him want to be a rock and roller on stage as the singer of Sabbath. pretty cool.. I was a 16-17 yr old punk they were in mid twenties, amazing experience being around those guys at that age. Ray was a very cool dude to me, always gave me compliments on my guitar playing and even jammed with him a few times. good times.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED Ray Gillen in Badlands! I lost interest in Sabbath after Ian Gillan did Born Again. Lost track of who the singers were after that too. Just found out recently that Ray sung for Sabbath. Glad I found this out. REALLY enjoying the tracks I've heard where he fronts the vocals!

Sykes didn't wanted anyone to overshadow him again, as DC on WS, so he decide to sing in the Blue Murder following a suggestion from Bob Rock. He did an amazing job on vocals, but imagine have Ray on that album, would be another level for sure.

Ray was frikken going for it on these demos. This song especially ( my favorite from the lp ). Tony's solo is very earthy and different from the released version,but no less stellar. Wouldve loved to see where Sab could've gone with Ray,but if he stayed we wouldn't have gotten the god level 1st Badlands lp.
