Dio may sound like a traditional classic style metal singer by todays standards but its also partly because so many that folllowed were inspired by him. To me Dio was always the optimal metal singer, he could sing the most beatiful pieces like you heard in the beginning of the song but he also had that belting metal power voice that few others could match.

All Black Sabbath's five singers have brought something of their own to the table. There is something to love, not to mention headbanging like crazy to, in each and every Black Sabbath era and lineup. The difference only adds spice and keeps it interesting. What they all have in common is that it's first class, absolutely incredible heavy metal, matched by few and surpassed by none.

Glenn delivered some unbelievably stellar performances on 7th Star. Too bad he was in the state he was in and had to be dropped from the tour. I wore out that cassette back in '86-87!

Totally agree, every era of Sabbath is worth a listen, saw all of them except Tony Martin, my only Sabbath regret. (Ozzy x 8, Dio x 3, Gillian and Hughes once each).

The great late Ronnie James Dio. Love the Dio era of Sabbath. Also check out his previous band called Rainbow. The song "Stargazer" is a must. Plus songs like "Catch the Rainbow", "Gates of Babylon", "Man on the Silver Mountain" and "Temple of the Kings" are other great songs by Rainbow.

Ozzy was as not the best Heavy Metal singer but was the best frontman, I saw them all, multiple times, no one could get a crowd going more crazy than Ozzy Osbourne. There is a reason he is Rock God!k

The sound at the end of the song is the beginning of the next track on the album. Another singer for Black Sabbath is Tony Martin, who came after Dio. A couple of Tony Martin era songs that I've heard are "Eternal Idol," a slow and heavy song in the vain of "Sign of the Southern Cross" and "Nightwing," which has a mix of acoustic and electric guitar.

Wow! A deep cut classic from the Ronnie James Dio version of Black Sabbath, which was an awesome change after the huge loss of Ozzy Osbourne. Ronnie's my 2nd favorite era and lead singer who is a legend in his own right, having also been in Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and was beginning a stellar solo career. The best song for that Black Sabbath is Heaven and Hell, you would love that one for sure. Sabbath had 5 different lead singers over 5 decades, with Ozzy being the first and last, most would choose his time as their classic sound but all 5 singers are worth hearing, all have a different take on the Sabbath's sound but one constant in Black Sabbath's entire history is the presence of legend and innovator, Tony Iommi on lead guitar, musical director and keeper of the flame for the band and their sound, he made sure everyone who ever played in that band (including Geezer Butler on bass on most, but not all, Sabbath albums) could do justice to their old Ozzy classics that they did every tour. Please do Heaven and Hell when you can and you have tons more of Ozzy to try, get back to the first album and do the Wizard next, it will make you smile! Wow, this song is so deep ...speaks to you from other worlds, same impact as it had in the 80s. As for the Ozzy vs DIO Rivalry between fans; thats been going on since the 80s. Good on ya girl for going for what moves you. They are both great singers. Their was another singer for Sabbath too. For me i like the storytellying and depth of Dio moreso. They are both worth learning more about right into their Solo careers. Then you get the fan split between guitarists for Ozzy, Randy vs Jake. Im Randy Roads all the way. Again, both are great.

Black Sabbath recorded albums with Ozzy Osbourne, Ronnie James Dio, Ian Gillian and Tony Martin. The one with Glenn Hughes are more like a Tony Iommi solo albums that the record company decided to call Black Sabbath. During the years they had other singers that didn't record albums. They had Dave Walker replacing Ozzy while rehearsing for the Never Say Die album. Ozzy came back and recorded it. During1984 they had Ron Keel and David Donato for a short while. Jeff Fenholt as well during 1985. Ray Gillen replaced Glenn Hughes for the tour. He also recorded demos for Eternal Idol before Tony Martin joined and recorded the album. Drummer Bill Ward recorded vocals on two songs in the Ozzy period. It's Alright from Technical Ecstasy and Swinging The Chains from Never Say Die. The latter because Ozzy refused to sing it. Bill Ward has a great voice. Could have been the singer as well for Black Sabbath. The sound in the end are the start of the instrumental E5150. Goes straight from Sign Of The Southern Cross into E5150 which leads into Mob Rules. Great keyboards/synths by Geoff Nicholls RIP. He was a member of Black Sabbath credited on the albums but not shown very often. 1979-2004. A big part of the Black Sabbath sound over the years. I saw Black Sabbath in 2007 when they performed as Heaven & Hell with Dio and Vinnie Appice. They had Scott Warren on keyboards. He was standing on a platform on the left side of the stage almost in darkness. Left the scene after the band in darkness. Hope he got paid well.

RJ Dio is such a talented singer . Though he was little his voice was powerful and conveyed a great manlyhood . In a sens he is the archetypal epic heavy-metal singer . Ozzy doesn't have 10% of his technique, but his voice is unique . It conveys madness, sorrow and confusion . I don't know any singer who try to copy him . Two different singers for two completely different universe . It makes a richer world .

Since you reacted to a Black Sabbath track, perhaps you'd like Deep Purple's "Space Truckin''' or "Burn", both killer. DP is another one of what's known as "The Unholy Trinity" (Led Zeppelin makes three). Ian Gillan and David Coverdale, respectively, handle the lead vocal on those tracks.

You must not be familiar with Dio I'm guessing? He wasn't 'Ozzy's replacement,' he was already well estblished at this point. Everybody was familiar with his work with Rainbow. The songs on Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules were all co-written by Ronnie. The actual suggestion that Ozzy would sing one of Dio's songs is one of the more ludicrous things I've heard in awhile. When Black Sabbath re-formed with Ozzy they didn't play the Dio songs, that would have been WEIRD...🤣🤣🤣

Im new here. I prefer Ozzy over all the singers that were in Sabbath. I loved Dio's vocals alot, but you're right, It waa a completely different vibe. Dio fit in with Sabbath at the perfect time. Of you would like to hear a genuinely beautiful but somewhat lengthy song from Ozzy era Black Sabbath, try giving "Air Dance" a go. It really is a wonderful song and Ozzy is really the only person on the planet that could've sung that song with the kind of feeling vibe that emanates from that song. If you do, please do not turn the song off. Let it play till the end even when it fades. It matters, especially with that song. It's off their last album with Ozzy and it's called "Never Say Die." Again, the song i would have you hear is called "Air Dance." About a woman who once was a dancer.

Ronnie James Dio was every bit the legend as Ozzy. He had great success in Rainbow (check out Stargazer) Sabbath (on several occasions) and as a solo artist (Holy Diver? Rainbow In The Dark? Last In Line?) Ronnie is one of the greatest and most beloved metal singers of all time. RIP RJD.🤘🤘🤘
