RJD clearly has far more range and a more melodious timbre, but I've always preferred Ozzy on vocals when it comes to Black Sabbath. His voice just fits the whole Sabbath vibe a lot better in my opinion, it blends perfectly with their ominous tone. My friends and I went to the Roxy in Hollywood when Mr varney was first starting his metal promotions. There was like 15 bands. None of them had a real song line up. I think there was 20 people in the audience. Got to see a lot of unknowns...slayer, king diamond, Metallica with Dave mustaine and cliff Burton. Betsy from bitch comes out in a leather teddy and started giving buttons to anyone who would kiss her ass. That was the start of metal. That was the first time they opened the Roxy in 25 years. The next day we got to Lizzy Borden in a high school auditorium..

A very powerful and emotionally charged album. DIO will always be one of the best lead singers in the metal genre.

I'm reading Dio's autobiography. I've loved him from the first time I heard the power of his voice. Knowing how he just KNEW he and Tony Iommi were meant to work together the moment he heard what would become "Children of the Sea" makes this record even more special.

I love how well you can hear the bass lines in the mix. For me, that's a rarity. Honestly sometimes the bass is almost more of a subconscious thing, it would sound different without it, but I rarely can single it out. Maybe a fill here and there, but this is a fantastic mix!

Absolutely a classic masterpiece of rock history: Dio joining Black Sabbath (after Iommi had kicked Ozzy out of the band), and recording one of the best albums ever! Hands down some of the best work from Iommi, Butler, Ward, and of course Ronnie. Had met RJD at a Blue Murder album release party years later, he was one of the coolest musicians I'd ever met! On a completely different note, I was in an auto accident right around the same time this album was released and tragically my brothers girlfriend died in the accident, the song playing at the time -"Die Young"...
