This is a jazz drumming explosion on steroids. On of the greatest that doesn’t get and credit.. the timing is off on the drums for the entire song..!! And yet.. it all works. This song is not for the average Joe just listening to rock. Bins like Black Sabbath Led Zeppelin Hendrix deep purple. They really for the musically inclined. Because the musical writing is so far advanced that things may seem like they are a jumbled mess, but in reality they’re not

Yeah, I had made much the same comment during the live show. They often seem to have a hard time making up their minds about whether they like a song or not when they can't fit it into a neat genre or time period. Personally I would classify this one as "Blues Heavy Metal." ;)

That whole first album was 'raw' as we witnessed the birth of real heavy metal with its release What you need to do is listen to the suite/jam on side 2. Try this suite: A Bit of Finger/Sleeping Village/Warning. This suite will blow your mind and you will hear Tony Iommi in full fury as he marks his territory and for the very large wake in music history he was creating. Enjoy! 🎸

I just bought this album today. The first time I've heard it on a big hi-fi. The punchiness (is that a word?? :-)) of those drums, bass and especially that sound of the guitar tightly together is unbelievable! At high volume, it almost blew my speakers. They were a fantastic rhythm section! Very funky as well as heavy!

Ward and Butler: Bill Ward (drums), Geezer Butler (bass). One of the greatest rhythm sections in rock. Both jazz fans. They are so syncopated. When Bill swings, Geezer plays straight. When Geezer swings, Bill plays straight. They take it in turns to swing it about. Just once in a blue moon do they ever swing together. Great discipline and being jazz fans helps.

Nice reaction! This song is from the very first Black Sabbath album released in 1970. At this point, Sabbath still had a very Blues- based sound.....you're listening to a very embryonic form of what would become metal. You should definitely take the journey with Black Sabbath as they refine the early metal sound through subsequent albums.🤘

The guys in Black Sabbath were from Birmingham, England--a tough steel factory town. Guitarist Tony Iommi referred to it as the kind of place where you ended up either working in a factory, or joining a gang. Don't be surprised by the harmonica--Sabbath's members were students of Blues music. In fact, before "Heavy Metal" became the universally accepted term for this type of hard rock, bands like Sabbath were sometimes described as "Atomic Blues". I wish that term had stuck.

This album was so far ahead of its time it’s ridiculous. Probably onne of the greatest albums ever made. I was eight years old when this album was released and it still stands, in my mind, as the greatest rock/ blues albums ever made. One thing that helps understand the lyrics of the song is they were big nerds. Sprinkled throughout their music is sci-fi and fantasy references, more specifically this song is about Gandalf from lord of the rings

Such a groovy beat by Bill Ward on the drums and Geezer Butler on the bass. Also great guitar by Tony Iommi and the harmonica by Ozzy. On their by many hated album Never Say Die Ozzy wrote about his dead father on Junior's Eyes. Also a very groovy beat. On the same album Bill Ward are singing Swinging the Chains. Ozzy didn't want to do it. Great voice. Ward also sang It's Alright on the Technical Ecstasy album. Black Sabbath doing Beatles. Never Say Die was the last album with Ozzy before he was replaced by Dio. There was a lot of tension and the band were not showing up in the studio at the same time. You could say that the album were made on a very big pile of Coke
