The video is completely fan produced. Don’t look for meaning there. It’s very high on production value but it’s decades late to the party. The song is far simpler than that but still awesome. And yes... Tony Iommi. A straight up God of Guitar. But don’t discount the rest of the band. Bill Ward, Geezer Butler, and Ozzy who had to compete against a stack of gained up Laney amps every night.

You should repeat this with a lyrics version because they deserve the attention. Tommy's a left handed player, but more uniquely he lost the tips of two of his fretting hand's fingers (mid+ring fingers on right hand) in a teenage sheet metal accident : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Iommi

Meyzen76: For a song's content to still be relevant nearly 50 years after it's initial release, it has proven to be truly timeless. I feel that it is very sad; that when it comes to war, society has not changed very much, if at all.

Well, yeah. And it still will be timeless in the future i am afraid. Sabbath played loud music, but they weren't as satanic as Coven were before them. They weren't fans of that witchcraft thing. And they were right. Who needs wizards, goblins and witchcraft as the same time horrible things happen to our world such as war?

shaitanlavey: IMO, fan made videos are the worst way to be introduced to any band's music. Studio version, official video, live, or lyric videos are all better choices, than the random fan videos. For another example; there is a certain Pink Floyd fan video that gets way too many reactions and the reactors are always distracted from the lyrics and music.

The video is actually a horrible creation that matches the lyrics slightly in abstract. The song came out in Sept. 1970. The video always throws everyone off. The version with the lyrics is the best. You wouldnt have any questions. The lyrics are quite powerful and timeless. Basically anti-war, but with all songs, it's best to make your own interpretation. I'll post them below if you want to read them. I've missed you guys. It's been a minute too long lol.

They leave that role for the poor, yeah Time will tell on their power minds, Making war just for fun Treating people just like pawns in chess, Wait 'till their judgement day comes, yeah Now in darkness world stops turning, Ashes where the bodies burning No more War Pigs have the power, Hand of God has struck the hour Day of judgement, God is calling On their knees the war pigs crawling, Begging mercies for their sins Satan, laughing, spreads his wings Oh Lord yeah

It's a travesty of justice lol.

@ Step n Jay Lee, yes, Black Sabbath basically invented heavy metal. Here's an interesting fact; it was released on September 18th, 1970. The same day Jimmy Hendrix died. Pretty crazy. Have you reacted to anything from Jimmy Hendrix? There are no words to even describe him. Stevie Ray Vaughn covered a few of his songs. Hes another on an insane level. Very bluesy. So much soul for a white man that its mesmerizing lol. Its hypnotic watching him play.

Here's my take: I don't mind the video as an abstract reinterpretation of the song, or maybe as a compliment to what the video makers were trying to say. That's fine. It happens a lot with powerful classics like this. Hollywood does it all the time, and often to much worse effect. I just wish it wasn't mistaken for an official, sanctioned video--as though it has anything to do with the _actual_ intent of War Pigs.

"War Pigs" was written during the Vietnam War, and the Cold War. The song had meaning to young Americans, because the draft was still in place, and wealthy and powerful families could find ways to keep their adult children from being drafted into the US Armed Forces, while poor people had to be drafted, then fight and die in the war. During the Cold War, there were a lot of "proxy wars" all over the planet at that time, often taking place for control of oil fields, and precious metals mining interests. That is what Black Sabbath was angry about in this song.

This song was written in the height of the Vietnam war. As I watch the review I cannot help but to notice that the both of you are watching the video and really not focusing on the music ! The video means nothing and really does not tell the story that the song is telling ! The song is basically about how politicians start the wars but we as the innocent people have to go and fight the war's that the politician start in the first place and how that is not right !

Entirely true. As a fan made video....which I think are o.k. if not sometimes are actually cool and legit artistically (SOMETIMES even better than the official one(s))....it is a bootleg and does not represent anything the artists might have intended. That is not so bad as long it is understood in some description somewhere. Otherwise they can be misleading stumbling on them where ever on the internet. THOUGH with that said artists will also say that of their own official "short promotional films" a.k.a. "music videos". Interestingly enough in my corner of the world growing up well into if not throughout all of the 1980's people sometimes did not know what they were looking at on channels such as MTV in terms of understanding what "music videos" really were. I personally think Michael Jackson used the description better being "short promotional films" (even though they were sometimes not filmed but literally videoed). So what they were were (and are!) basically commercials. I think some of the confusion would be "short promotional films" that used a live performance with the studio track...and sometimes live performances supplemented "short promotional films" as well. These all costed globs of money and became problematic if the record company or artist did not make their money back some how from making them which was an issue for many people.

@@alexkx8599, we humans are much more visually oriented in our minds than any other sense, hearing (audio) or smell can be very important, but the visual (most times) leaves the strongest lasting impression. With the advent of MTV and rise of music videos it forever changed the way we interpret music. Now you may hear a song and get your own impression of it's meaning letting your imagination run wild. But, the moment you see a music video, from now on that's how you are going to interpret and visualize that song.

I'm sorry...But at the point you stopped the video the first time...that ist what you got from it? Smiles...No, already it ist speaking of war in general sense, the fact that those who start wars are not those who actually fight them, as well speaking of those many who work in support of wars und those who fight them do so most often for reasons they know not why. Of course I'm paraphrasing only my, und a gazillion other people's interpretation of this music video. The song was first cut und spin on radio in 1970. The actual origin und meaning was told by Black Sabbath themselves during a much later MTV interview. This more recent fan-based video ist rather accurate regardless of what some others may complain. Her mum was executed as well her dad was forced to work in production of the war machine. She was simply showing her defiance for freedom. The song ist simply a protest of war in general und the evil suffering from it. Quite gute story, drums, und guitar I think, as well the rather sermon-like singing fit the narrative. Have a fun day. Stay safe in Haus from COVID if ya feel need, und help others if ya can. Auf Wiedersehen von Wiesbaden :-)

Watching this reaction, where they're missing a lot of the music because of the distracting video, just made me realize the meaning behind video killed the radio star. How apropos.

Best reaction videos you should look up the band and read it and do a lyric video. Stop it and comment during the song so it doesn't get flagged as a copyright infringement. Your opinion on the lyrics and music. Good luck.

Great reaction guys as usual. Been loving them. I always thought Disposable Heroes by Metallica was like a part 2 to this song - from the point of view of a dying soldier. Both songs are about 50 and 30 years old respectively and still as relevant today as the day they came out

The song is about how war is satanic. The song and video are two different things, the song was from 1970, I saw them in 1972 in LA. The lead guitar player is Tony Lommi.

The guitarist is Tony Iommi. He cut off the tips of his fingers when he was 17. And he became the father of heavy metal (riffs). Amazing. I saw him live. Jawdrop.

FORGET the video! It has Nothing to do with the song. The lyrics tell the whole story. It was an Vietnam era anti war song. Please find a live version of them doing this song. Tony Iommi is the guitarist. Black Sabbath was a very deep band lyric wise, mant that have not listened to them do not realize the depth of their lyrics, Thank for reacting to this classic!

Great reaction! Yeah, the song is so old that there really is no video -- just a fan video like you said. And guitarist is the god of Metal: Tony Iommi. You guys got the meaning pretty well. it's about how the rich use the poor to fight wars for their own benefit.

A classic track from the pioneers of metal. Also worth hearing - "Black Sabbath" their self-titled track - Ice-T sampled it for his song "Midnight." /watch?v=cZGwaoLA4bI (Black Sabbath, Black Sabbath) /watch?v=ZIDjXG5Zvyc (Ice-T, Midnight) If you get the time, could you react to "Orgasmatron" by Motorhead? It's a beast of a track with brilliant lyrics! /watch?v=H_W96CHxd7I (Motorhead, Orgasmatron) Cheers, guys.
