Outside of his guest verse on “Wotowoto Seasoning,” Black Sherif really hasn’t been the same since “Kweku the Traveller.” It’s the same guttural singing over sparse beats. Plus, he doesn’t really have that big of a personality (his peculiar fashion sense notwithstanding), and I suspect that his management is not exactly the best in the world. So, his star power was already plateauing or declining by the end of 2023. But the fallout from #PlayGhana didn’t help, especially when it was revealed that Nigerians, Ghana’s eternal adversaries, are ironically the largest streamers of Ghanaian music, particularly that of Blacko’s. It’s like, This is the thanks we get? Well, many Nigerians left Blacko’s ride after that. It's just a lull ! Some artistes can experience it at times! It has nothing to do with Nigerians shunning him! As a child, I remember that Jamaican reggae singer Jimmy Cliff came to Nigeria in the mid 1970's, but he had contractual issues with a promoter and was arrested and detained briefly! On his follow up album after the incident," Follow My Mind", he had a song called "The News" which he scornfully addressed the situation in Nigeria! That record became such a hit in Nigeria that for a period, Jimmy Cliff was the best selling artiste of any genre in the world in Nigeria and Ghana!! Cliff of course came back to Nigeria to see Fela Kuti some 15 years later and all that was put aside! What am i saying here? Well music unites people, well it's meant to, so all that play Ghana music brouhaha was just infantile nonsense! But Black Sheriff needs to work hard, I am sure if he releases a banger, Nigerians would embrace it, no Yawa there abeg! Blacko just needs to work harder of course and certainly be more creative!
