The fifth and final episode of the second season of Black Space Matters features fifth-generation farmer and food justice advocate Michael Carter Jr. at Carter Farms (thecarterfarms.com) in Orange County, Virginia. The property has been owned by the Carter Family for over a century. Series host ‪@blackpowermediareloaded‬ talks to Carter about Black land ownership and the intergenerational reasons why Black space matters.
In this season of the ICA’s video series Black Space Matters, food justice advocate Duron Chavis goes on location to Black-led farms and greenspaces around the RVA region to discuss land ownership, sustainable agriculture practices, climate change, and other pressing issues. Over the course of five episodes (released every Friday), Chavis and series guests explore themes of collaboration, environmental racism, and the importance of Black space.
