Thank you! I have black spot on my new 'Chandos Beauty' (Harkness) and it should be healthy. I hope it´ll feel better next season.

Hello Olga, I hope you had a beautiful Christmas. I have just had my new baby roses chewed down by Rabbit’s 😭 Didn’t see a rabbit all summer. I had put my roses to bed for the Winter by defoliation and mulching with compost and shredded bark mulch. Then we had the winter storm,and so cold and 5inches of snow . I haven’t been able to get outside to check my garden until today. My new roses six of them were all chewed down to two inches! Rabbit dropping all around this was the first time I saw any signs of rabbits. Do you think my roses will come back next year? Should I do anything now or is it to late . I’am new to roses and love all your videos,and have seen you protected your roses from rabbits. I just didn’t think I had any , silly me! Thank You,for your videos ! Deena in Michigan zone 6

Hi Deena, happy new year! Don’t worry, your roses will come back next year, the root system has plenty of stored energy to send fresh and young shoots out to seek sun rays. But, if your cute rabbits will continue dining on fresh foliage, your roses will be stunted. So, do rabbit protection, whatever you do, baby rabbits are really keen on getting those young shoots!

My David Austin Abraham Darby starts every season as what I think is the most beautiful and most fragrant rose bush I have ever seen. I could look at its blooms and stick my nose in them for hours, well, a good few minutes anyway. But by the end of the season it's an ugly shapeless skeleton ravaged by black spot, rust and whatever other problems are around. And each year I have a mental struggle - do I keep it or do I replace it with something that looks better for longer? So far Abraham has won the struggle. But it's not an easy decision to make.

Yes, I do have the same problem, Aloha climbing rose in my garden. One year it was so bad with blooms that I said to myself: I am taking you down no matter what. Next year, she produced the most wonderful amount of blooms! Guess what, she is staying...

Change the location to a sunnier place. unless you have a bush rose all other roses need a sunny place, and not under the shade of trees because in the beginning of the season when your tree has fewer leaves to none your rose will be great but once the tree puts on more leaves it will get a greater shade and your rose will get diseases.

@@olahellasnews1252 Thanks for trying to help, but the rose is in a bed where it receives sun nearly all day long. It just seems to be a rose that is particularly susceptible to diseases. Although it is available in the US, David Austin no longer sell this variety here in the UK, and I think the reason is that it is so prone to disease in the climate here.

What’s the difference between aged and fresh manure? Why is one better than the other?
@OlgaCarmody
@OlgaCarmody 2 жыл бұрын
Oh my, aged manure won’t burn your plants. Fresh one will kill them all right. Plus aged manure feels like rich soil, no smell at all.

@@olahellasnews1252 I have direct access to it… from my dad. He has 4 cows. That’s why I asked about the difference. I’ve actually never had a problem using somewhat fresh BECAUSE it is mixed with bedding material like hay. It’s not as potent then.
