Great video. I have the black square king air and learning the checklists etc but have found couldn’t get engines running correctly. Your video simplifies it and I’ve also learnt a few things. One thing I didn’t know yet I’ve had the gtn 750 for ages is the ability to import simbrief flight plan. Must never have known this and done it. So even though not a tutorial video is more informative than you might think. Cheers.

Ah that’s great and thanks! Glad it was helpful. Yes the TDS is one of the options in the Simbrief downloader. You sometimes have to clean it up for errors and always need to add the procedures but it saves some time!

To your credit, you have given yourself a mighty high workload. For one, the Kingair is not a simple airplane, there is a lot to manage and monitor. People struggle to learn IFR in a Cherokee or 172 and here you are trying to learn it in a Kingair!
@Dreamsofwings Жыл бұрын
Yes I could have made it simpler on myself 🤣. Great fun though, I do love this King Air.

Very well timed video - I was getting ready to buy the BlackSquare Bonanza when I stopped and thought that I already have too many single engine piston planes but I think the twotter is the only twin turboprop in my collection so maybe I should be looking at this instead - so very good to see you giving it some attention, it must be a sign 😀

I used to fly regularly out of Larnaca to Beirut and back for an operation called the Beirut Air Bridge. It was considered too dangerous for Americans to fly into Beirut and drive through the city to the embassy, so they would fly into Larnaca, and we flew them directly to the embassy in Beirut. We flew two Blackhawks, one for passengers and one for cargo. It was one if the army's best, but least known assignments. When off duty we explored Cyprus's historic castles, ruins, beaches, bars, etc. Basic tourists. That operation was discontinued shortly after I left in 98.

Hi Rob, Another great flight entertaing and educational as usal, the flight brought back memories as I was in Tel Aviv many many years ago during the early period of the first gulf war, I was working with Gunniess Peat Aviation the worlds largest and best A/C leasing company my boss was Tony Ryan (Ryan Air) I was there with some 747'd having cargo door conversions performed by IAI (ISRALI AIRCRAFT INDUSTRIES) I remember walking each evening when safe to Jaffa ancient port not to far from the beach front Crown Plaza Hotelin Tel Aviv for a beer and dinner. It got pretty "hairy" at some points with Saddam lobbing misiles into Tel Aviv, I recal the British embassy contacting all UK Nationals to set up potential emergency evacuation at the time via helecopter tp an off shore anchored A/C carrier, in my 70th year now and your flight Cyprus to Tel Aviv reminded me of those days and weeks amd months spent at Ben Gurion airport with IAI. Sorry I have gone on a bit, thanks for the ride- Great Job.

Thanks so much Charlie and thank you also for sharing your memories. That must have been quite a time! It’s a shame that, due to the nature of the flight and the need to stick to procedures, there wasn’t an opportunity to really sight see but I will come back and take a look when not under the watchful eye of ATC 😉

Love your videos. Not afraid to discuss mistakes but the genuine passion for the subject shines through. Am thinking of joining this VA. Quick question: does it matter what in-sim time you set or do you have to set it to the flight’s scheduled departure?
@Dreamsofwings Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I can highly recommend! No, you have the freedom to set your sim time. The flights have a default departure time on them but you can choose to fly at a different time without being penalised.

Mmmm, pilot error ... Back in FSX in the Level D 767 (INS and VOR navigation, pre-GPS) I once did an international flight from NZ to Japan without setting the reference airport on the first page of the FMC. The flight plan worked for the first few hours because the plane only uses INS navigation when it hasn't been able to see a radio beacon for about 15 minutes and the flight plan took it just close enough to Aussie and PNG to get a sniff of a beacon every 10 mins or so. Eventually it got feet wet for long enough to change over to INS, applied the recorded track to the default reference airport in California and decided the plane was somewhere near the north pole so turned due south. When it got back within range of radio beacons it corrected itself and turned north again, rinse, repeat. Had the support forum scratching its collective head for several days, I even repeated the flight AND MADE THE SAME MISTAKE AGAIN. While the 767 was on the ground the beacons shown on the nav display are loaded from the database, it's only when the gear comes up it displays what it can actually see - so all the time the plane was on the ground before takeoff the nav screen was full of American VOR stations not the ones I flew with every day, and I didn't notice a thing. Twice. And you think YOU feel like a plonker !

Pilot2ATC is an interesting idea - does it really make you read back *everything*, or can you just short-hand it like you would with a real controller? CAP-413 ( which I've been revising for the summer & attempts at some lessons ) has a big note about brevity and specifically mentions not saying "with you" now - not sure whether to be annoyed at beaurocratic nit-picking or to approve their encouragements at brevity... in a typically British way, both I guess :p
@Dreamsofwings Жыл бұрын
Oh dear, I should have known someone would comment on the ‘with you’ . Yes even back in the 90’s when I trained in ATC it was frowned upon

I had never heard of Pilot to ATC before I am very interested? I had a bad experience with VATSIM due to my Bravo several sim updates ago locking, on climb out thus got shouted at by ATC as some kid have done a overshoot of a big jet behind me..Sadly I did not find Vatsim kind to beginners. So would love you to do a video of Pilot to ATC as its good training for going back to Vatsim... Thank you always love your videos.
@Dreamsofwings Жыл бұрын
Cheers Al! Yes what it lacks in human sentient controller it makes up for in covering wherever you are, whenever you are. Like any voice recognition system their are ‘rules’ you need to stick to for it to work correctly but I can’t do a VA flight without it now.

@@Dreamsofwings Yes very interested in looking at it... Perhaps I was put off by too much sentiment on Vatsim for a beginner. Without new pilots joining Vatsim would die .

Evening Rob, As you know enjoyed the KingAir Flight a great deal and nothing has changed that, I seem to have messed up the discord route to chat as I changed password and needed to verify by entering ib my e mail address each time I did this kept getting a message email address already registered etc and then could not log on so after hours of trying to sort it out I have given up. Any way have you made any vids flying the freeware Dave Gartree Hawker Hunter, it brilliant and I am guessing in your hands you would make a "cracking" presentation the S/W updated and incedibly immersive. Thers also a free ware Hawker Hurricn ever tried that both available fltsim,to. Anyhow Thanks anf Best Regards Charlie
@Dreamsofwings Жыл бұрын
Hello there Charlie! Sounds like instead of changing password it is trying to set up a new account. Might be worth having another look and just checking it is giving you the option to change and your password and not creating a new account. I do have the Hunter and have flown it a couple of times but as I’ve never felt the urge to really learn the ropes with it enough to do a video. It lacks a propeller 😉 Not tried the Hurricane no. Living in hope that someone does a really good one to A2A standards.

I don't get this plane. Very inconsistent flight model. You're able to maintain 700 Fpm at 100Kts. If I do that in mine. I'd be falling out of the sky in a hurry. At 60% torque, max prop, 120kts, 3-degree nose up, and full flaps, I'm still falling at 1000 fpm. I must pitch up so much that seeing the runway ahead is hard. I have a much better time flying the PMDG 737 than this.
