@@alexcedeno966 Rose had a reason for everything she did, you just weren’t paying attention. For example, the one decent guy she actually killed, she didn’t know he was decent. With an another unknown stranger guy already in the house Rose simply wasn’t going to take any chances with her daughter’s safety or well being (like not being raped). In a dog eat dog world like this, even good decent people will do unlikeable horrible things to keep their loved ones safe.

@@streakydrip8792 yeah same here, started off with a bang, literally, it’s crazy how long the zombie chase scenes are, action packed and it appears they are done in one take! Awesome. Also I love that the zombies are super aggressive, it makes it way scarier and intense when they are runner type zombies, the walking dead was a great show but the zombies weren’t really an issue, they were so slow that it was never really a threat to the survivors. The black summer zombies are wayyyyyy better.

Bigger and better season 2. Loved the new snowy landscape. Made it more scary and haunting. This series just shows how much The Walking Dead went off the rails years ago. The Lodge part near the end was scarier than most modern horror movies. Even reminiscent of Stephen King's The Shining.

Had the same exact thought. It drives me mad in all these end of the world-type movies. A bad guy is killed, and the person maybe takes their weapon but never takes their Ammo, ammo pouches, etc. I was thinking that in one scene that in addition to the weapon and ammo, they also left behind a flack vest - which just might prove handy in a firefight. Just sayin' And what about food wor water that may be carrying. Ah! what a waste.

Season 2 felt more like it shouldve been season 3.. I had no idea why two groups were fighting over about where the plane was going.. Also, how they just stopped fighting and instantly teamed up made me laugh honestly.. At the end of episode 5 it got weird..

The first episode blew me away! Wasnt the biggest fan of season 1. But after 3 episodes, I'm hooked.. the one-take shots & Cinematography was incredible. Usually hand held/ shaky cam annoys me, but it really works here. It helps immerse the viewer

And here comes the season 2. I think that might change my point of view. And I enjoyed very much watching the show.

Season 2 was "OK". Was like the "Endgame" of this universe. Season one being Infinity War. And I think alot of that had to do with Covid interrupting productions. There was zero build up in the story or resolution from season 1. Shoot zombies and run from zombies, shoot rival clans, etc. etc. Understandably, they were trying to get to the airfield, but it seemed like MOST of the episodes were just filler. Sigh...What did they do the core cast? In season 1, we were slowly learning about them and watching them come together and get to know one another and work together. This season, besides Rose and Anna, Spears and Sun were pretty much reduced to background characters. Especially Sun being tied up and led most of the episodes. Most of the side characters introduced were forgettable besides the guy that Spears briefly bonded with. Anna had the potential to be a really interesting character but we didn't get to know her much. Partly because she had little to no dialogue. But, like Sun, she was just following along the entire season. . The leader guy (clearly inspired by Neegan) really commanded the screen with the scenes he was in though. And the last action scene with Mance(?) handling all of the zombies. That was some damn good direction and camera work! Overall it was watchable: C-

Agreed. The characters and their relationship really made season 1 enjoyable. Season 2, Rose and Anna were the only "main characters". Sun and Spears were pretty much reduced to background characters.

Season 2 was amazing, I could tell that they had issues with covid but it didn't matter, the series was tense regardless. I loved Spears' solo episode. And Sun is the reason to live for this series. My heart went out to her when she found someone who finally understood her through the whole bullshit she endured throughout the series. Made my day knowing that someone who offered water, and peace in conflict was the clear karmic choice in the end.

Man it’s July 2023 and I’m just now watching this show. I purposely came to KZbin to see if anyone reviewed it. Boy was this a gem 💎. I praying they make a season 3 I’m hooked. TWD Would be perfect if the zombies was that mobile and the action was as outstanding as Black Summer. I really think the acting picked up with season 2 , especially with Spears! He did an awesome job and I loved how we really got to know him this season. We also got to know Rose’s daughter in this season and in her character development it’s interesting how they are depicting her mental state. You see the mental trauma she’s under and not just the hardening of her, but of Rose as well! I started to feel for her. I felt for Spears as well. I loved the introduction of the character Mance. He is a total bad ass. He’s smart as hell and that man can FIGHT!! I’d love to see his character developed more in season 3. I also LOVED the cinematography. Beautiful landscape shots strikingly contrasted with the ugliness of their lives.

For real. I remember always dodging the series when they just released it, but when I finally watched it, it was enough drama and thriller, not only I was terrified of those super heavy scenes of zombie fear but also when other people represent danger alike. I loved it and got definitely saddened when they never said anything about a second season, two weeks found out they were releasing the new season. In terms of shots and camera work and all that stuff and the way they developed scenes it's exactly the same, and I loved it, it kept me thrilling, just enough tension and fear in perfect shots, but in terms of plot it loses so much. I remember watching the first wpisoyand thinking "this is going to be nuts" and I was so ready to know everything, who was the red guy and why was he so dangerous, what happened to Sun and why, Spears, what would be the next final task, but at the end, most answers went unnoticed and the final was so stupid. It has no plot (and I know, they are survivors, they just wanna survive, but come on, give me something else) they just want to arrive at the plane from episode 5 on and I didn't even know how they could trust that dude, or if they ever heard of the place, if so then how and why, who told them about the big ass house, who were those two armed guys, what was up with the trio that had a beef with red guy, so many questions and the tension filled scenes were ya enough to cover up all those missing pieces

Honestly I hated Rose and the daughter. Lots of holes in the story. People killing each other and wasting bullets...not to mention the fact that those shot become zombies right away! I hated the fact Rose kept killing people without remorse or hearing them out. Ugh!! And Spears wth! He asked to get shots! Ugh! And why they killed Lance? Poor guy really deserved to live and even the crazy guy that took them to the cabin. Also, why there are only a few zombies? Like there should be a lot more zombies. Is a missed for me. Honestly after being let down by the 1st season I finally took a chance last night out of sheer boredom to watch the second season of Black Summer & I must say it was well worth it if you're into horror apocalyptic style shows, Rose was overly aggressive & protective & while I understood why especially when they were in the mansion, it nearly cost the pair once they left the place with Boone (Boone surprisingly ended up being my most liked character but he was too naive & it got him killed all in all the writers did Boone dirty). It was a tad bit frustrating to see Ooh Sun who's such a great character, be tied up & dragged for most of the 2nd season & my man's Mance shocked the holy hell out of me with his sheer will power to fight & survive towards the end of this season finale. The writers did a much better job this time around.

Black summer has good special effects and tense scenes but they need a lot of character development and better editing. The fun with zombie series is rooting for the characters to escape but most of them are not likable and you just don’t care if they are killed. This series has potential but needs a lot of work. I agree that spears and sun are the most intriguing characters

yeah they did a better job of characters in season 1 because everyone was together in one good guy group. in this season, it was like one good guy group vs 3 bad guy groups, and people don't really connect to anyone in the bad guy groups. although it looks like Ray and Mance potentially cross over into being part of the good guy group in season 3.

Was kinda disappointed with what they did to Spears/James......seems like a waste of a good character .....the scenes in the mansion and the lodge were awesome but it REALLY bothered me how they would all just stand around while the lights were on and every single window had the curtains open or none at all and im thinking...if Z's and murderers are wandering around why would you do this at night and make yourself completely visible? yeah i know its just a tv show but it bothered the sh1t outta me

Black Summer takes place about two years before Z Nation begins. Black Summer is the beginning of the end, Z Nation is the world that's left behind after the zombies have pretty much taken over

Tried watching this with low expectations and attempted to enjoy it. It felt like it was filmed by a high school student that couldn't comprehend how to transition episode to episode without random time jumps in between that leave extremely big plot holes lol. The fade to black chapter style transitions works when you don't have 12 of them in a single episode that's less than 40 min. I didn't like any of the main characters except for the Korean woman who stayed sane and neutral the entire series. Everyone else just made piss poor AWFUL decisions at every single turn. It really felt like every scenario a character ends up choosing the dumbest possible outcome rather than thinking it through. Its like a zombie series with the most idiotic possible people constantly running into each other. 3/10 at best. Looks like they didn't get a budget increase for the show.

Awful just awful, convoluted story telling at its worst... rose and her daughter were unlikable at best, the story arc did very little for character development, and it was just all over the place. Dialogue was very clunky and video game like, smh they did ok with the first season but they completely shit the bed on the second season. These writers and directors pissed away any potential this story had.

Watched the whole thing. I liked it. The first two episodes leading up to the one where Sun was captured felt like they were trying to get across the different scenarios people would face in real life. Overall, a group or individual is going to screw over another group or individual if they have the chance. Groups will form and people are going to try to infiltrate other groups as the woman with the red hat. An interesting scene was at "the mansion." I thought Sonny (the youngest son) was actually being a paranoid douche off his rocker, but he was actually correct. Another interesting part is the "cult" scene with the walls scrawled with "ascending." I think that was in reference to the Rancho Santa Fe cult that committed mass suicide in the mid-90s. In terms of the long takes, I think the Black guy at the hangar who distracted the zombies was a faked long take. There were two parts that really stood out where the camera panned briefly over some bushes and another they used a shadow. The worst character was Boone. He was the Jar Jar Binks of the series. Just annoying as hell. The ending in the plane was the weak point for me. Lastly, Julius James wasnt military. Keep in mind he stole those pants from Season 1. The interaction between him and Braithwaite revealed he was pretty much an enforcer in his older brother's gang. "Taking names" = successful hits, which is why he thought Braithwaite was dead (pre-Black Summer).
