Hats off to the Templar player. RARELY do I see someone play them and actually get their rules correct, and on top of that, the army was thematic. I can't remember the last time I saw an LRC not die on turn 1 or 2, but I guess target saturation really helped! Great game!

I'm old enough to remember seeing a couple of dudes at my war gaming club playing Space Hulk shortly after its release. 40k itself seemed remote to me because I was such a WW2 guy and never a devoted model gamer anyway BUT there's a new game about to be released on PC that i watched being played by a KZbinr this weekend that convinced me to investigate......however, whatever that game may promise in my mind simply can't beat the spectacle of a well designed table-top skirmish with beautifully detailed pieces and generous explanation (some of which I pretended to understand) coupled with friendly and knowledgeable interaction between opponents. Very well done! Entertainment as always! One little Thing...53:50 Genestealers charged (fight first). Then become "fight last" through debuff. These cancel each other out so Genestealer go to "fight normal". As such they could be activated after the Assault Intercessors have been chosen. Thats how its played right? (GW described it as such in their latest FAQ) pls correct if i got it wrong...

I think the fight last just overwrites the fight first, doesn't cancel out.

@@thomasstrang1499 Yes in many other cases of the main rules it is actually handled that way. However, there is an author's comment to these combat rules. FAQ states: "If a unit would be both a ‘fights first’ and a ‘fights last’ unit at the same time, it is instead a ‘fights normally’ unit."

I don't think charges count as 'fight first' rule. They just get priority in the fight phase over anybody who didn't charge. You would be correct in 'fight last' counteracting quicksilver swiftness etc, as that is an actual 'fight first' rule. Fight lasting a charging unit, but still having them 'fight normal' would make the rule almost redundant.

@@callumstrachan4774 If you make a unit attacking you a "Fight normal" unit by using a "Fight last" ability, then you as defender have the chance to choose the first "Fight normal" unit after all other "Fight first" units have been chosen or you have used "Counteroffensive" elsewhere. This could be, for example, the unit that has just been attacked. So your "Fight last" ability still had an effect. It's a bit complicated, but I think that's how it's done...

Look out sir, would've protected the chap because he was next to a vehicle and the intercessors were closer to the shooting unit. Awesome video as usual!

Sadly there were only 2 intercessors so lookout sir didn't apply there. As the chaplain was closer that the vehicle that didn't afford him any protection either!

That is correct, I was just about to comment the same thing! Chaplain was within 3" of a vehicle, which meant he could only be targetted if he was the closest unit. The Intercessors were closer, therefore he couldn't be targetted. It doesn't matter that the closest unit wasn't able to also provide Look Out Sir, just that they were closer when he was already covered by that rule.

At the end of the day Winters and I looked at the rule and came to a decision together that both players were happy with within the context of the game. While it sucked to lose my Chaplain I don't think it had a massive effect on the game as a whole 🙂

Having the Emperor's Champion for the close fighting allowed the Captain to step back from being smashy and buff his men instead. Very useful. (We also learned not to put Hiveguard behind trees)

Absolutely right. I think we've also learned once more that the only way to get a T-Fex on the field halfway effectively is to give it the acid gun. It's just too unreliable to hit with 6 shots on 4+ and then wound and save etc until maybe you get to a D6 dmg through....and it allways becomes a 1 ;) Very cool model though...

I'm not a Tyranids expert by any means, but with the new Codex coming up soon, from watching battle reports it looks as though they need a couple of new models - firstly, something that is bigger than a genestealer, not a character, slightly slower, but tougher, maybe 20-30 points so you can run a small pack of 5 or 6 for 150 points and that hit reasonably hard. I know that the Hive Guard have a melee version - Tyrant Guard? - but i hear they're not very good. They also need a better gun platform - perhaps scale back the gun to make it Damage 2 (enough to take out a marine), , but give it something like 2D3 or even D3+3 shots, hitting on 3+. or some sort of new biological ammo that explodes on 6's.

@@alexvaraderey very well analysed. Nids already have fast units and Obsec campers. What they still lack are Baldeguard equivalents. I suppose T-Warriors should play this role in the manner of Terminators. Then they would just need some kind of horn shield/storm shield and should cost about the points you suggested. Also, it would be very cool if they expanded the concept of bio-adaptations so that you can buy adaptations on certain units with points...extra chitin armour, synapse sensors, prey feelers etc....I'll just keep dreaming ;) ...Oh and finally an aircraft of some kind and better transport on the pitch would be great...some kind of transport caterpillar/bio-rhino ;)

50:35 Pretty sure you can't shoot at that Chaplain. He is within 3" of the Dreddy and he is not the closest model because there are intercessors in front of him. The unit doing the protection does not also have to be the closer unit.

Excellent batrep! Just a tip though: venomthropes can't provide their stinky cloud to monsters unless there's 4 or more of them, since 8e Tyranid can never get anything without a drawback.

Binging this channel. Only recently got back into Warhammer in a big way (almost 2000pts tau now, looking at alot more, with a complimentary 1500pts genestealer cult) But I've never played 40k, ever.. (tonnes of fantasy in the past when my birthtown still had a store) I live fairly remotely with someone who has no.. other than a fleeting interest in any of the game. A shame!!! I've got these two armies, mostly painted (and way too much left to build and paint... ) And I'm just desperate for a game lol Maybe I'll have to pop to Truro and see if I can rope someone into taking on and teaching a newbie But until then You and a few other channels have really been scratching the itch!

50:28 Look Out, Sir counts as active if the character is within 3" of a squad containing 3+ models or a high wound model, as soon as it is active, that character can only be targeted if it is the closest enemy model, which means it can be blocked by units that don't trigger the ability.

Yeah so in this situation the chapelain is within 3" of the redemptor and the 2 men infantery is closer to the shooting model. Or in other word, the model/unit that provide "look out" doesn't have to be the model/unit closer to the shooting model for the rule to trigger.

I think they need less big nyds and much more mass. many much many more little critters. The force is to smoll. Nyds are best used with lots of units rushing forwards not giving a heck about looses. Winters has a very nice collection of models but they do not embody the tyrranid spirit of high mass close combat army. It feels like he tryed to play them like a elite army but thats not how nyds are made. Sure they have good charters and monsters but this only limits the nyd player and gives the opposition only very few models to shoot and focus there fier on. Mor elittel onse and only two or three big monsters in a sea of ankle biters.

Still can't shoot the chaplain on bike cause the intercessors are closer they might not be allowed to count for blocking but if a character is being blocked it reverts back to closest visible now the captain would be fair game
