Shemot (Exodus) 4 6 And YHWH said furthermore unto him, Put now thine hand into thy bosom. And he put his hand into his bosom: and when he took it out, behold, *his hand was leprous as snow.* (Lev.13:12,13) 7 And He said, Put thine hand into thy bosom again. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, *it was turned again as his other flesh.* (aka Melanin) *Mosheh (aka Moses) was not a "white man."* Vayikra (Leviticus) 13 12 And if a leprosy break out abroad in the skin, and the leprosy cover all the skin of him that hath the plague from his head even to his foot, wheresoever the priest looketh; 13 Then the priest shall consider: and, behold, if the leprosy have covered all his flesh, he shall pronounce him clean that hath the plague: *it is all turned white:* he is clean. *(clean lepers aka "white people")*

As a Samoan, I'd like to clarify a misconception regarding the Samoan word "Meauli." In our language, "Mea" means "thing" and "Uli" translates to "Black" or "Dark"; hence "Meauli" essentially means "Black thing." Throughout my life, I've heard this term used in various contexts, even by our Samoan people with darker skin, but never as a racial insult. While "Meauli" might not be the most appropriate term to describe people with dark skin, it's crucial to understand that it wasn't intended as a derogatory word. A more fitting term in our language would be "Tagata Uli", meaning "dark person." The Samoan language holds a strong foundation of respect, and while we have our own array of colourful expressions, our primary intention is always respect. This discussion reminds us to reflect on our word choices. Still, it's important to emphasise that in the Samoan context, "Meauli" was never used as a racial slight against Black or African individuals, especially considering the diverse skin tones in the Pacific region.

I have lived abroad and have experienced microaggressions by POC. In their language, they used a word translated to mean servant, but it was used with people who were Black or darker generally in menial positions. You said Black person literal translation would be best, but it reflects the mindset of the colonized people. We gave been BRED to reject our own people and not recognize our own as family. We are all original members of the planet. We have been bred to hate the skin we are in. I walk with the understanding that we are family period.
@novemberreign7255
@novemberreign7255 Жыл бұрын
@akilahm9852 You are 💯 WRONG with assuming it’s a “micro aggressive”. When a Samoan speaking person can’t remember someone’s name, or never knew it, we say, “mea”, similar to people from the Caribbean who say, “Ting”. In-which the literal American translation is “thing”, but that’s not how we’re using it. Example: Me: Are you going to the party? Friend: Who’s party? Me: (can’t remember the name) You know, mea.. the one at the beach tonight.. Friend: Yes, I’m going to your SISTER’S party! Eh!! (then they all laugh) This has absolutely NOTHING to do with “racial slurs” or “micro aggressions”. If our children are half Black, they’re afakasi meauli, which means 1/2 Black. We damn sure aren’t referring to our kids as things. This is what people who are not from the culture & do not speak foreign languages need to understand. All words do not mean the literal “American translation”.

Hi, as a Samoan myself I think the lack of education and understanding about my culture and language I'm annoyed that your comments are completely unfounded. Palangi (white people) meauli is for black people neither is a derogatory. It shows how people can be so ignorant and why there is so much hate in this world. Y'all get educated if you're pushing that my people hate blacks or hate any race for that matter. There is no word for Racism in our language. We're simple people, we show respect and it don't matter if you're black, white, Asian , or even our own we will throw down if our respect is not met with respect. Get educated or better yet stop spreading hate.

Being a full blooded Samoan with dark skin, I grew up hearing the word 'meauli' all my life. This word has existed in the Samoan vocabulary since the beginning and long before both the black and white man ever set foot on the islands. It was never a racial slur. It was a word used to describe darker coloured Samoans like myself. I must admit it's neither a pretty nor an appropriate term, nevertheless, it's an existing word in our language. I'm sure every language has a few colourful words in their language. Samoan is no exception. Hope this helps.

Wait wait wait so you’re telling me because the Samoan language has the capability to make racial slurs the mass collective of Samoans have beef with Black People? When I was traveling internationally, I made a conscious decision to visit countries in the African Diaspora. I always feel more relaxed in a country that is predominantly populated with Black people. Most people are always surprised to learn that when I traveled to the South Pacific, that I never visited any of the Polynesian or Micronesian countries. I chose to go to the Black South Pacific (also referred to as "Melanesia"). I traveled to Papua New Guinea, Fiji and Vanuatu with a Black Tour Group. Everywhere we went, we were treated so well. They told us about the lies that their colonizers told them about us. They loved the fact that we had the same Black skin. We shared music and meals. So I agreed with you. Why are Black people trying to connect with those other ethnic folks when they don't like or relate to us when there are so many other Black folks all over the planet who love us because they are our skin-folks. P.S.: In the South Pacific, there is also the Solomon Islands, New Caledonia and Irian Jia.

As a Black person, I understand the assignment that THE MOST HIGH gave us as a ppl. There is NO OTHER group of ppl on the PLANET that can handle the daily indignities and hardships that Black ppl have been dealing with yet still be able to reasonably function and thrive in spite of our obstacles. There is a reason why Black ppl are constantly studied, probed, put under immense pressure in all facets of life. When we are healthy and well adjusted, we can surpass most even with meager resources. When we are at half capacity, we still.manage to thrive. Our ability to improvise and make something out of nothing is unmatched. So the only thing left to do is to villify us, and maintain open warfare tactics against us from cradle to grave. Black ppl who understand this will not be victim to the psychological, emotional and societal nonsense that other ignant groups of ppl dish out. THE MOST HIGH says that HE doesn't give a person more hardship than he or she can bear so ppl born Black should RECOGNIZE that THE MOST HIGH makes zero mistakes and has bestowed a responsibility on us that most ppl cannot even begin to bear and work it on out! HIS opinion of us should be most important, more than any in this world.

I am white and since age THREE I fell in love with BLACK PEOPLE. My dad showed us famous photos of tribal people and for me those were the most beautiful and I wanted to be BLACK. Later my dad told us about colonialism and slavery and I was so shocked and horrified that I NEVER wanted to be affiliated with colonial or white status groups, NO. We marched with our dad at age 8 and 10 in a Seattle sister march While MLK marched on Washington. There were threats but we went anyway and I sat on my dads shoulders. Why should we live around people who attack us in every way daily. Wasn't there an attack a couple of days ago, where a 20 year old whyte male shot and killed 3 black people and injured 4. This has been happening for nealry 500 years in America. The racism here is toxic. But we have hope because we see that America and the Western Empire is failing and falling. WE also feel the spirituality of all of our ancestors that have been violently killed by whyte people during these 500 years including the ones who died in the oceans and in Africa as well as our indigenous black Turtle Island ancestors who were exterminated.

The comments section here definitely needs a reality check…. For those of you who watch TikTok as a news source and refuse to do any type of research, you should probably know that the Samoan language & the English language have different word orders. Samoan often uses subject-verb-object (SVO) word order, whereas English typically uses subject-verb-object (SVO) word order. Translating directly while maintaining word order can result in awkward sentences. The Samoan language and culture often have specific concepts and words that do not have direct equivalents in English. Translators may struggle to find concise and accurate translations for these concepts, leading to awkward or lengthy explanations. “Mea” in Samoan translates to “Thing” in English. Mea’Uli = Thing Black… Mea’Ai = Thing Eat Mea’Alofa = Thing Love Mea’uli = black person Mea’ai = Food Mea’Alofa = Present/Offering What may seem unusual in one language can have deep cultural significance or make perfect sense in another… if you’re offended by the rough translation into English, we can openly debate this topic.

I was in the Army stationed in Hawaii in the late 1970's. Hawaii had a large Samoan population at that time. There were always problems between Samoans and black military guys at that time. There was a slur word they used for blacks different than the one you mentioned. I am not surprised they had more than one. I was from the South and was not aware of the anti-blackness from Samoans and Native Hawaiians before going to Hawaii. Black military personnel stationed in Hawaii at that time had to deal with all sorts of racism and discrimination from these groups and Asian Americans. Things are a little different in Hawaii now. I am not aware of the situation in CA, and Washington with their Samoan and other Pacific Islanders population.

What would make you think things have changed or attitudes? Why would they want to change? What would cause them to change? Those so called modern Hawaiians are NOT Indigenous to Hawaii as they would have everyone believe. They are Colonizers who crept in humbly to live side by side with the original BLACK Hawaiians. Somehow they became the dominant Race and they openly and actively mistreat Black folks today. During Covid the Cops Shot and killed a unarmed African over nothing. (Racism).

Does not mean the. Sat majority of us have some fetish. Stop that nonsense.

Right! But that's with all different racial groups that a chunk of our folks have a fetish for, rather than dating and marrying their own people, the dumb and stupid interracial sexual access sambo crowd.

As a African American who is Muslim, I study the Bible and Quran, I know that black people are the lost children of Israel. We’re literally hated all around the world and I love it, because it proves what’s in the Bible. We are the Chosen Ones!

You're right.. The hate and contempt are so irrational, seemingly so, that it proves the truth of the scriptures. I don't get upset anymore. God is great. God will deal with the haters. I don't hate them, but I refuse to give them the power to hurt me emotionally. The earth is given to the wicked ... for now.
