I'm not sure how you talked about black velvet but didn't mention the artist Edgar Leeteg, who I believe was one the primary artist who reintroduced black velvet painting to the western world in the 1930s through his paintings in Tahiti. I'd be very interested in a lesson that discusses into the techniques he used to get such luminous portraits.

Great idea! Im changing my daughter's room around, putting together some celestial sorta stuff, stars, a big ole moon I got her a while back...and a black light...maybe some velvet painting too! Super cool idea!

What kind of velvet where can u buy it I've tried some from a crafts store and it didn't hold paint at all

You may have to try a couple of types. Rayon velour is one type of fabric that artists use for this technique. Hope this helps!
