I have a much older friend who is a violinist but is very old school and had no tolerance for hip hop. Yet he heard this, saw the video, and said this is the greatest violin playing he has heard in decades, and this man is a classically trained violinist and has been playing the violin since he was 5 years old, so nearly 70 years. Black Violin is now one of his favorite bands and he teaches violin classes using both classical violin and Black Violin music. He encourages his students to experiment with ALL different styles. He has downloaded a lot of Black Violin music and sometimes I can hear it blasting from the mp3 his granddaughter have him as a birthday gift last year.

These guys have played for Aerosmith, Tom Petty, Lupe Fiasco, Linkin Park, Alicia Keys, the Roots, Kanye West, etc. Very talented. My kids and I met these guys, they did a Masterclass at a local college in my area, they are such, nice, kind, patient guys. They remain humble despite their growing fame. All the students got to improv with them individually and learn how to loosen up on their string instruments, kids that are used to playing nothing but classical music. During the masterclass the students got to play alongside them and learn how to improv a little! The band they tour with is very talented as well! They did an actual concert at the college later and the tickets were sold out!

There's a lot of orchestras that do a variety of music in the symphonic style, particularly heavy metal (which adapts very well-really lets you appreciate Sweet Child O' Mine without the vocals to distract). The Istanbul University State Conservatory did an enthusiastic performance of Martin Garrix's "Animals". Dido's "Here With Me" is beautiful anyways, & truly gorgeous symphonically stylized, & there's a The Piano Guys instrumental crossing Adele's Hello with Mozart's Lacrimosa. So it's entirely possible for rap, hip hop or other contemporary genres to be embraced & enjoyed this way. Fusion is good!

@dwthomas, I agree with you, however, this song was, in fact, used in the opening credits of a short lived FOX TV show, "Pitch", which was about the true story of the 1st female major league baseball pitcher. I really liked that show. When I saw the show, I recognized the song. Found this video to show to my students, who are from diverse backgrounds and heritages. What's even cooler, I live/teach in the same county where these young men grew up and attended school and learned to play. I was the cool teacher that week. It also reminds me of the gospel song, "I've Got the Victory"

2 weeks in love with the notes i'm getting on the fingerboard with the violin. I had to buy a second violin because the first i bought was a dud (the neck was not made right), but it came with a good case. Still in my lower 50's i wish someone would had put this instrument in my hands 40 years ago. :) I'm even getting good draw sounds on the bow now... but like i said i'm two weeks in. Now starting to look at the strings and finger placements (but still at this point cheating, and a lot of the notes are coming naturally to me, on the fingerboard, not necessarily using the right fingers at this point. Eventually... I will have unlearn what I have learned. ;D

Violin has really come into its own. It has finally broke free from the classical/country typical stuff. David Garret takes his Stradivarius and plays AC/DC, Metallica, Aerosmith... The people that sit and listen to this type of stuff... are in some ways like the people who sat and listened to Paganini or Vivaldi back in the day. In a way, those guys were the "rock stars" of their era who took the violin and pushed it to new levels. Really, the ONLY thing I can possibly say on the negative side is that personally, I would love to see that electric switched out for a "real" one. You already have a old school viola, I just think you need to sport a violin :) You can pull so many different sounds and tones from a violin. I think the violin is the one instrument that does not NEED electricity as it can create its OWN electricity. People can rant all they want on this one but...... all I have is ONE word for ALL of them.... STRADIVARIUS!!!!!!

I saw Black Violins in Austin Texas. I love these men. They are talented and use their talent to inspire the youth. They did workshops at the schools. Their kids from elementary through high school in attendance at the concert. Keep doing what you do young brotha's

Where have I been all my life? I just discovered these two OUTSTANDING young men. They came to Charlotte on February 15, 2022 and delivered a free concert for the 4th and 5th graders in CMS Schools. I was beyond jubilant that our students had a wonderful time...and so did I. @blackviolin THANK YOU for what you did for our students! One proud Strings Teacher😊

I'm working on my violin skills. I go to my private lessons every Tuesday and my teacher is the best. I'm doing so well with reading the notes without having to write them down . But when things got rough I told her I was going to start writing in my book and she said you better not or she would kick me out lol she's the great I'm going to bring her flowers this Tuesday to show her how much appreciate her. Thank you guys for the inspiration.
