Black Vultures

Thanks for the info. Just came across a wake of Black Vultures in New Jersey and posted the video so now KZbin is recommending Vulture videos. Thanks for explaining the term buzzards correctly to us. That was new to me.

I'm in southern NJ, and we have Black Vultures here. They are somewhat common, but not as common as Turkey Vultures. Sometimes I see groups of vultures that include both species. Melvin is pretty cool.

I use to paraglide and I can tell where the best places to paraglide are by the vultures activities. They use the same vents as paragliders need to glide through the air. I love them. Eagles also use drafts from air vents to soar the sky. Vulture's are not afraid of humans so they are available in areas that people populate. They are known to find places that are high traffic of people and choose one person that they will follow and manipulate. I have met black vulture's before. They followed me and my mom while we were camping. I guess they had nests in the area and saw me with my food. I gave them stick's and paper, the female liked them. She would set beside me when I sat at the table outside our RV. My mom took pictures of me and the vulture's. She always took pictures of me when wild animals would visit me. For some reason I attract animals. It's been like that my whole life. I can set down outside and the animals will gather to check me out and sometimes set with me.

I have a colony of these beautiful birds in my neighborhood and they are so gentle and meek. I'm so glad you discovered that😊

Black vultures are so awesome. I have been taking care of two that were babies and the are grown now and live in the wild. They still come back to my home when there is no carion to get some chicken drumsticks which they love❤️❤️❤️. Very smart birds. Love them❤️❤️❤️

i remember when i went to the province where my mom had born, the city market was fulll of there vultures, they were everywhere waiting for someone to forget the food for eat it, here we call them "gallinazos", in my city they are a lot of them flying over the sky, nesting in the roof of the churches mostly.

Thank you sir I sure disliked vultures but yiu mentioned they clean the planet of disesase because of their garden belly. My mind is changed. Birds n animals font look good are helpful as opposed to those look good are selfish n no help. Jussojuan

Don’t forget about the CA Condor, which eats the big carrion. Are they part of the vulture family as well? I know their numbers aren’t as high as the others, but they are slowly coming back. I believe they have the biggest wingspan for North American birds.

They are. They’re actually the part of the new world vultures along w the black and turkey vultures. Old world vultures are the one in Africa.

Nonsense. Word meaning is culturally determined. In the south vultures are buzzards.

Got attacked by one of these. Was minding my own business picking a cucumber from the garden when I turned around there was one blocking my path. Somehow when I looked into its eyes I knew it was up to no good.Despite yelling at it, it came at me twice flapping its wings and trying to peck at my shins. I landed a good kick and was able to get in the house. Im in Nebraska, they are thick here this year.

My freezer died a few days ago. So, I unwrapped all the spoiled meat and tossed it over the back fence. Today, the vultures must have smelled the decaying flesh. There were two groups of vultures: Turkey and Black. Loyalty amongst vultures is like virtue amongst whores. They all fought each other for the spoils. In the end, the Black Vultures ran off the Turkey Vultures. I know of a fellow who stopped his pickup truck while vultures were eating some road kill. His windows were down, and a vulture flew into his cab. The bird upchucked all the carrion he had ingested. The fellow called in sick and went straight to a car wash to hose out his cab. Be well, Sir!

Those are cuffs and jesses. Those are to keep the bird from flying off when they are on the glove.
