Black & White 2's Expansion Is...

This video is the sixth video in an ongoing series about the games of Peter Molyneux and Lionhead Studios. This time we're covering Black & White 2's expansion pack Battle of The Gods.
As a side note I want to thank all of you for the kind comments you've left on the last video and the others. That video has done way better than I could ever expect and your kind words fill my heart with joy and inspires me to keep trying to get better. I am moving soon so next video may be out as late as mid july but know I'll try to get it out as soon as I can. Thanks for the support y'all.

I've been dreaming about it since 2008-2009 myself. my mind just goes crazy imagining more personal decisions with religion/evolution/multiplayer/total war style multiplayer fights/new creatures it just seems like a goldmine for ideas that nobody seems to care enough about to pull off in the modern gaming industry

What a timing, this review is only 3 months old and I was just recently considering getting back into Black&White 2 as an adult with (jokingly) Uber Gamer skills, after being fully done with B&W 1. This comes in perfectly in time. Thank you!

There is a fan theory that the undead god in this Expansion is actually Nemesis resurrected in a flawed ritual, which is why he is all about wiping out life now and does not mention he is Nemesis and seems to act different than he is in the first game. I remember buying this game first, mistaking it for Black and White 2, I did get Black and White 2 in the end though. I still own it today on disc and it works even on windows 11, I use the fan patch.

I never played the expansion pack but i still have the base game cd. I played this to death but as a kid i was never that good. I wanna retry it in the near future. You should also do the movies. It was rad!!

City building and strategy is having a little revival with Manor Lords and Total War Warhammer being popular right now. I would love to see something like Black and White again. But its been so long so I might just replay 2 instead.

I never got to play the first Black and White game, but I had Black and White 2 and it's expansion as a kid and it's still one of my favourite games I have played, I always hoped they would make a third instalment to the series but unfortunately that will never happen unless someone somehow manages to buy the IP to B&W

the shield miracle protected from catapults (so kinda useless) and in my experience, it somewhat (but not entirely) protects against the hurricane wonder. that how the shield miracle was useful in the base game.

Since you can import your Creature, i brought my literal one man army of a creature, who i had trained so gods damned much, that even against end game creatures, he did nearing 200 damage a hit, he could essentially damn near One Tap the enemy creature, and break down walls and gates in mere seconds, i didn't even have to worry about keeping him healed because he was so absurdly powerful that his health was through the roof. At the start of each new map in the base game, i would just sent him in, and then not care, i instead focused on building my town's walls and such, only to recall that i sent in my creature, check the enemy's city, only to find it in ruins, in where i send in my "army" to capture their capital. Man, nostalgia...i still cry over the fact that we never got a B&W3, life's not fair.

I never really got into the expansion pack. The focus on combat resulted in a lot more stressful experience when i just wanted to have fun and comfy god builder.

Dude why do you only have 400 subs, im gonna see what I can do about that My biggest problem with battleground of the gods was the whole "game can only run on one core" thing. You hit a certain point of growth and everything starts to chug in the giant maps. I don't know how it is with current beefy cpus but it was a real issue a generation or two ago.

Definitely a lot better now to the point where you have to go into your graphics card control panel to cap it at 60FPS or else the cutscenes are wonky.

Broadband was absolutely NOT widely available in the UK when Black and White came out. Similar to the US it was only easily available to students and in the center of some of the large cities. It was in Sweden and The Netherlands that broadband was broadly available at that time.

I honestly liked black and white 1 more than the 2. It just hits different. In the first you rly had to teach your creature while in the second you just go through the list and beat the shit out of it. Besides i never rly went into the building aspect of the game. I always just did 2 sky scrapers and all the other buildings around. Made almost all population breeders and raised massive armies.

I loved B&W and B&W2. I would be so happy if someone made a copy cat game but take it to extremes. Like proper base game and then a DLC every now and then with multiplayer support. I think than city building stuff from B&W2 and more OP crap from B&W. Anyone wanna create a game studio? :D

@@erikmcswain Might also have to do with the shorter length. Much less stuff to keep track of in the game world. It really doesn't like going above 1k population. At that point the villager AI starts to bug out and crash on save starts to become present. Anywho, great series, looking forward to a potential covering of the mods for 1 and 2. That'd be pretty neat, and might even touch on some of the things you've criticized,
