At least in this version, it shows that Taskmaster is incredibly hard to defeat. Honestly, I feel like the movie really didn't give Natascha much to struggle against morality-wise. She never had to make a choice on whether to kill someone despite a big conflict being her past as a murderer. In my opinion, both could have been fixed by having the twist be that Antonia was never mind controlled, rather than having it be that she was. Furthermore, make Natascha's "posing" quirk more than just a running gag, but rather have it be the "face" of a larger theme of Antonia being able to take advantage of people's habits in battle, countering Natascha's tendency to do the leg spin thing, the posing thing, etc. This then can be used to tie the action into the themes of the movie by making Antonia directly oppose the movie's themes of one's ability to better themself. By being so keenly observant on people's habits and in fear that her years of working towards her revenge might have been for nothing, Antonia has become convinced that people can't truly change, that no matter how hard she trains or how many augmentations she gets, she'll always be that girl who was so desperate for revenge she'd turn herself into a living weapon. Finally, by removing any chance for a peaceful resolution to the fight by making Antonia not mind controlled, Natascha would be forced to either risk her life to spare Antonia's and find a way to restrain her, or finish the job she started years ago. The fight then would conclude with Natascha actively changing her habits, even if momentarily, to counter The Taskmaster, and getting herself injured multiple times to ensure Antonia is stopped without killing her.

So they create a new variation of the Super Soldier Serum (you know since there are tons of those like centipede and gamma serum) That does give the user the regular super soldier abilities, however instead of changing the user’s morality, it affect their memory just like the comic version. Give the Serum to Tony Masters who would be either a SWORD agent or a US soldier and you got yourself a more comic accurate Taskmaster.

I doubt this will happen, feel like she's just another one off villain like many MCU villains, but I think they could use this as a jumping off point to becoming Taskmaster. She can open up her own training school with the idea of being better then her father and without the mind control. After all, with the chip still in her head despite the mind control’s negation, she pretty much has the same abilities as Tony Masters. Imagine if Antonia Dreykov found herself with nowhere to go, no one to turn to, and no clear path ahead, so she decided to put her combat skills to use as a mercenary while trying to figure herself out, and she gets in touch with some bad people along the way as she slowly starts to realize that what she’s doing is just as bad as what her father forced her to do. I think it's unfair to say the character is "ruined." The MCU can have Taskmaster show up again with a comic book accurate role and personality and it would be perfectly consistent with the ending of Black Widow. Except, historically, they don't do that. They don't re-interpret characters. For example, when the Fantastic Four arrive, they aren't going to portray the Skrulls as villains. "If you're gonna take a character and change their name, gener, origin, nationality, abilities, personality and design - then you don't really want that character in your work". Missing one important thing - Brand recognition of their hero name, which, i suspect, is the only reason Taskmaster got chosen for the antagonist role in this movie. Everyone was excited for the "Black Widow vs Taskmaster", but very few people, especially ones who are only familiar with MCU, would go to watch "Black Widow vs C-list villain who appeared in maybe 4 issues in the 90s" or "Black Widow vs a brand new character with no history to their name we made up for this movie". 10:10 What about "Dun-dun-duun! The masked badass character is actually a girl! Surprised? Eat that, patriarchy! Now give us a lot of money because we pandered to you, please" angle? Because really, what other reason is there for Taskmaster's gender to be changed?
@jasoningramx37313 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you and the thing is I would even say them changing certain things isn't too bad like if they wanted to gender bend the character then be upfront about it and just have her clearly be a female but actually make her taskmaster and give her a personality, maker her a mercenary and make her cool because if done right it could work. But instead they try so hard for the twist to be that she's a woman that it just completely takes away from the character plus making her a lot less interesting, and only the character in name. And honestly I really do think if they put actual work into making an original character for the movie and making that character interesting it could work. Sure the character won't be has recognized but that gives you a lot more room to experiment and make her unique and come into her own. A great example of this is harly Quinn or batman beyond.
@Matthew.E.Kelly.3 жыл бұрын
I think they just made Taskmaster a woman to specifically avoid the conservative snowflake bitching & whining about Romanova & Belova taking down a male Taskmaster for girlboss points 🙄 it literally doesn't matter which way they did it, conservatives are going to whine & cry either way. So they did what they did to make it a girl-centric story. Black Widow is not a shitlib "yassssss queen" girlboss in the comics. So let them have their marketing ploy in the movies. It has wider appeal & will attract more people to the comics 🤷 It has nothing to do with feminism & everything to do with marketing.

Here's the thing about the character who can copy their enemies' abilities trope: Like you said it requires the heroes to be creative, but also, it requires the writers to be creative when it comes coming uo with a solution. A good example of that was seen in JLU when the one to defeat Amazo after the latter wiped the floor with the justice league was lex luthor, and not through pulling a suit that could defeat amazo out his ass, he did it by making Amazo reflect on his own purpose. Nothing of Taskmaster was left other than the Name and "the concept of copying moves". What's the point of brand loyalty then? The moral of the situation is, if any of you have an affinity toward certain characters - they're all up on the chopping block, fair game to be sliced and put thru the creative meat grinder and be used as something completely unrecognizable.

so it just clicked why i am so sad about the character, it got the Captain Phasma treatment.

Ooh! You're right. DAMN I loved how good Phasma looked. Course, they'd done that before with Boba Fett.

Taskmaster being a woman is not an issue, but the fact that the character as a generic bad guy whose honestly just a puppet. Really the twist of Task being a woman really doesn't matter in the big picture, cause she could have been a literal robot and nothing would change about the character. And even if a "feminism move" than great job, they made a lame female character that wasn't even allowed to speak. Also, the ending suggest that we might not see Taskmaster again. And if we did, it might be she as hero (which is lame) or if it's a villain that is likely a different character (making Black Widow more unnecessary than it already was imo).

At least it was cool that they foreshadowed nat blowing up his daughter in Budapest all the way back in avengers 1
@betterlatethannever45293 жыл бұрын
Wait, wasn't Budapest a running gag that was joked about throughout the films? Were they actually joking about an incident that lead to the murder of a child?

@@betterlatethannever4529 yeah its safe to say the story wasnt actually planned out since Avengers 1

@@vesper1799 it had great potential to be a buddy cop film with Natasha and Clint, but noooo. They had to do it their way.

I think the best thing going forward would be to shape MCU's Taskmaster into something closer to the comics. She can still become a wisecracking villain that trains goons, why not? Maybe give her a more skull-shaped mask while they're at it

Here's my Remake of Taskmaster, He's a guy, Tony Masters, A traitor of Shield and an Old Rival or Natasha and Clint, Who betrays SHIELD and becomes a mercenary, After Civil War, Ross hires him to hunt down and Capture Black Widow, He tracks her to Russia and teams up with the Red room to get her.

Honestly…it threw me Alll the way off. The gender change didn’t bug me as much as story and use of the character.

So like I’m a big fan of Taskmaster, so here is my ball park theory. What if just like how Red Guardian is the Soviet Union copy of Captain America, Russians tried to have a copy of the extremely successful American Taskmaster??? I know it’s a really out there theory, but they dissed my all time villain so hard that my brain is trying to make sense of it.

Actually tho, MCU dissed a good and complex villain so hard
