Moving away from the stock flywheel with the governor removed seems like a good idea for operator safety anyway. Plenty fine in spec I'm sure, but probably not a few thousand rpm higher!
@danielsotelo3942 Жыл бұрын
This is what I have found as I have installed several preditor engines on similar mini bikes from the 2 or 3 manufacturers that HF uses. Meaning there is a standard and a hemi version. So far I have managed to get a top speed of 58 ~ 59 mph in their stock version, all by fiddling with the gear/sprocket sizes. What I also discovered is that after it maxes out on RPMs the valves simply start to float meaning the engine has hit it's limit. From that point no amount of modifications will increase the power unless you install lighter valves,and stronger valve springs. Once you do that you can you go on to purchase all the other go fast aftermarket parts. If done correctly the bike can hit 80 mph, and I'm almost there.

At 14:40 flywheel 8° advance pre-installed/off the shelf. Completely understand where your going. Now, here me out. How about cam timing, when changing cam out? Dont cam manufacturers sometimes have a little advance made into them as well? Whether regrind or new billet?
@sidewayzmike Жыл бұрын
See where I am going? I'm basically taking this videos timing principles education, and trying to add some info. I'm coming from automotive principles. So, moving the powerband/peak hp or tq observed at different rpm throughout the range. Ignition timing can manipulate peak hp at different rpm. Also, cam timing too. I don't have much experience using a degree wheel/reading cam cards/checking valve/piston clearance with putty/etc etc. That's probably why my car project's engine build, where I installed a schrick camshaft "straight up", choosing to skip degreeing the cam. I think it was a mistake, and I probably left some untapped hp on the table. My motor never had a strong idle performance, but upstairs (peak 7k rpm fuel cut) it made all its hp. I didn't like my results in the end. Kept dreaming of tearing it all down someday, and really get into the "meat n potatoes" of playing with cam timing, using an adjustable cam gear, and recording max advance/retard degrees, that way I'd know what is simply too much/dangerous/risk of valve to piston contact.
@sidewayzmike Жыл бұрын
Again, 4 stroke engine principles apply, whether it's a 12 valve bmw straight 6, or a single piston lawn mower engine.
@Black66 Жыл бұрын
The flywheel that I used has around 18 degrees of timing. The sweet spot on these little engines is about 32 give or take depending on the setup. Most billet wheels come with about 32 degrees of timing. I could have gotten away with more timing on this one. This setup is for the average person throwing this together in the garage with minimal tools. Inexpensive simple and easy. Definitely could degree in the cam but this wasn't in the scope of this video. Thanks for watching!

Hey, I'm 14 and I want to get into building my own first minibike! I will go with the 212 predator engine but I am having trouble finding a good budget frame! and I was wondering if you could link the frame you are using in this video. Is the frame purchasable by itself? thank you.
@viktorganchev18553 ай бұрын
I think it would be great if you make a new budget build minibike because all the parts shown don't exist anymore Keep up the great work I love your vids so far!

I know its a little late but where did you get the frame kit?

This bike isn't a frame kit its an original Azusa. Check out the fleet video and a walk around of all the bikes on the channel. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bqCrc3afrb2ahaM

Would recommend checking and clearing big end rod clearance too-its often tight. I wonder how it would react to at least 1 stamped 1:1.3 rockerarms - plenty cheap. Oops my bad

whats the best torque wrench to buy for these things?
@psalm2forliberty577 Жыл бұрын
I'd get the Harbor Freight Tools 1/4" drive Inch Pound Torque wrench. It's only good up to 240 inch pounds / 20 ft lb so accurate for these smaller fasteners. I think only the Crankshaft flywheel bolt & maybe head bolts will require a Full size torque wrench.

@@psalm2forliberty577thanks man I got me the bulls tools cool blue one and a digital reader just to check it's accuracy cant go wrong with both measurements dont forget to check those arc rod bearings even tho I ran my stock ducar engine going on 4years stock internals this is my first build it's a duromax 208cc 9271 billet rod rattlesnake cam 252 and I wanna run 22lbs springs but the 252 says to run stock springs for 20 mins to break it in 💪🏼💯💨💨? wish me luck def don't wanna be throwing money away if it don't work out I will just stick to stock stuff because I know my ducar treated me right

@Black66 Question: The flywheel you linked from studz racing, they claim it fits "Honda clone engines only" and not predator.. nut we see you using it here on a predator engine. Is there a difference in these two tapers, if so, what is it? And how did you manage to use the EC Flywheel? (looks like you cleaned yours up a bit too) I ordered one for my 212 predator and studz racing is giving me trouble about it!
@Black6611 ай бұрын
Yes, the taper on the clone and standard 212 are slightly different. There are differences in opinion on using the clone wheel on a standard crank. I have used them without a problem. I am not saying he is wrong, Other folks might have had diffferent experiences with this stuff than I have. I make sure to lap the wheel in with a good valve grinding compound before torqing the wheel.
@state_of_repentance11 ай бұрын
@Black66 thank you! Eric from studz racing is telling me to return the flywheel and "just by the billet flywheel" but I'm building a cheap 212 here for a mini bike... I don't need $120 billet flywheel on a stock un-reinforced 212 block. Any tips for lapping the clone flywheel to the predator properly?
@Black6611 ай бұрын
I use valve grinding compound and run the wheel back and forth until I get an even sanded surface on the crank as seen in the video. Also there is a link in the video description for a vendor that sells this wheel with the same taper for the 212. His wheel has 28 degresss timing built in in case you don't want to use the offset keyway to advance the timing.

Put a zip tie trough the governor spring loops so the spring doesn't stretch.

I was wondering how much valve clearance is in a non hemi predator engine. I am building my first motor and I bought a cam from go power sports. It is the 265 hot cam, I am thinking of mating it with the 1.3 rockers you are using in this video however I don't want valve clearance to be a issue. Thank you for your time.
@Black6610 ай бұрын
A standard predator is easier to use higher lift cams in because the valves are not angled or canted. If you use around .080” piston to valve clearance and .030” piston to head you should be fine.

Great video, I noticed that you got the bike up to 50mph only with the governor ziptied on a stock 212. I have a cc100x with a stage 1 predator 212 hemi(jetted carb, intake, pipe, ziptied governer) but it only does around 35 as its top speed. Could this be because I am using a 12t clutch with a 75 rear sprocket? If I changed the sprocket to a 50t would it get a higher top speed? Thanks
@ghostkilleryoutb51392 жыл бұрын
yes by changing the sprocket to a 50t it will increase the speed

i would try a 60t first tbh

I just received my stage 3 header pipe from gopowersports for my 224 and it doesn't fit? Neither the gasket or the flange... did you have these problems when using some of your 212 exhausts?

If you watch the 224 playlist you will see, I changed out the head at some point in the build. You can use them . You have too oblong the holes with a Dremel or file.
