A question about the voting... I might misunderstand how the device works, but it appears that there are two separate compartments, one for Yes and one for No. If that is the case, and a black ball in the Yes is an "oh hell no" vote, a white ball in Yes being a "definitely" vote, a white ball in No being "eh... maybe later" vote... what would a black ball in the No side mean? Or have I just got it wrong and its much simpler, with the voters dropping both balls and just selecting which side?

This is absolutely excellent!! :D I've had the good fortune to visit the Royal Society for a meeting about comets this past summer, where the organisers pulled some strings (basically, they called Lord Martin Rees, who was sadly in Singapore at the time, but asked Keith for help) and managed to show us Newton's refractor (the same one featured in an early Objectivity video) and a number of works on comets. I did say to Keith then that I felt like I've been there before, via the Objectivity videos (which wouldn't have happened without Brady). And then we've got Hanna Fry, who was one of the main speakers at a UCL graduation ceremony I attended the same summer (as she is a lecturer there), and of whom I have of course known about for a while, mainly (indeed) through Numberphile videos. She explicitly mentioned Brady and Numberphile at the start of her talk, too, by the way! :) ....so basically I am fangirling a bit here, having all three amazing people (Brady, Hannah, Keith. And the Royal Society as an amazing thing, of course) here at once, being excited about science and (its) history :D

Garbaz I'm not so sure about that, given that the query is meant to return a list of TV-shows, not a list of Hannah Fry, so you're looking at the plural TV-shows, not the singular Hannah Fry.
@Alphathon8 жыл бұрын
That doesn't matter though. If this were a declarative statement it would be more obvious: it's "Hannah is in shows" not "Hannah are in shows". The verb "to be in" ("is/are in") has to agree with the subject ("thing that is in"), in this case "Hannah": "Hannah *is in*". Neither changing the word order (question inversion) nor the expected response (a list of shows) changes that. There are other ways it could be worded where the verb agrees with "TV shows" though, e.g. "Which TV shows *feature* Hannah". The shows are the "featurers" and Hannah is the "featuree".
