Hear, hear! Three weeks ago the FBI said that a man that drove a truck with an ISIS flag through a crowd had no links to terrorism. This pattern of responses has nothing to do with Contempt of Court laws.

I saw a discussion about capital punishment recently, with objections to it... But in cases like this - where we've definitely not got the wrong guy and the guy himself won't defend his actions... then why spend £52,000 a year to house, feed and warm this cretin? In fact, something tells me he'll be considered a high risk prisoner, which probably means we're paying much more than that each year. Three young girls lost, potentially, 70 years of life each. Families ruined for the rest of their lives. But we best make sure tax payers can support this guy 🤦🏻♂️

In my humble view, Starmers statement was very much a lawyer summing up before the jury goes out of the room to deliberate. The problem that Starmer (and the rest of the government) hasn’t grasped is that the Jury aka the UK public has opened its eyes and has given its verdict months ago.

There is also another classic case, which still has to come to trial, that of the incident at Manchester Airport. Not only were the details available of those involved but they appeared openly in a press conference with their lawyer. Plus of course the video evidence of the incident was shown widely and can still be seen. If that case is not prejudiced when it comes to court then that will clearly show Starmer was wrong in his statements.

Thank you again for this excellent and very informative review Daniel and showing the example of a main stream media reporting very differently on another case. People are apalled by this heinous crime, it is simply so awful, that it is hard to digest. I cannot imagine how the families directly affected feel. People are angry, because a much better & accurate summary could've been been shared back in the summer. The public did not expect all details to be revealed to risk the jeopardy of the court case, but to be told a true outline of the case. People are generally angry, as feel that they had been gaslighted, lied to, and being let down by the authorities.

The attack was clearly a terrorist act. Starmer said on 21 Jan that "it was clearly intended to terrorise". I must have misunderstood police powers for many years. I believed that a police officer decides the grounds and reasons for a person's arrest, and this covers the offence or suspected offence. No one can order or direct who or when a person should be arrested by a police officer - it is the officer's discretion, based on the available facts and evidence apparent to the officer. I suggest that CPS (or whoever) giving the direction to the senior police officer about the offence(s) for which this suspect had been arrested were potentially interfering with the course of justice. I welcome BBB's thoughts on this aspect of the decision-making process of police officers. After all, the SIO makes their decisions, records those decisions, and must provide their rationale for those decisions.
