The trackball is a well known problem on many blackberry tour phones. There are a few different makeshift solutions that can make it work slightly better, but because it is a recognized problem your carrier will replace it with relatively no questions asked... that's what I did and that's what I recommend.

milehigh's right; the character limit is the definition of SMS. This is why BlackBerry Messenger is so useful. You're charged incrementally only for the data you've used, not for 160-character packets. I think someone worked out the average cost of SMS per megabyte to be around $600 - no wonder carriers love it so much.

They're coming out with this exact phone with a trackpad called the Essex.. there isn't a release date but you can wait for that!

Because BlackBerries have long used a magnet in the case for that purpose. If it used a light sensor, the phone would go into standby in a dark room, which might make it a bit difficult to use....

I'd say don't worry too much about it. RIM will be releasing OS 5.0 in the next quarter or so for the Bold, Tour, Storm and Curve 8900.

there not touch. but they are probably the coolest buttons on a phone i have ever used. they are flush to the phone casing and seem to be a solid part of the phone, but when you push down they do have a very good ammount of travel and feedback.

Not on the Bold, that's correct. But as was said, there is a 3.2mp cam on the Curve 8900, which is what I was talking about.

@buckeyemagic you simply press the shift key while you select the text with the trackball as though you were going to copy the text, but instead of pushing the menu key and copy, you just push the delete key. (At least in the Blackberry bold, that's how it works, but I'm sure they didn't change that)

the $30 is unlimited access to bb "push" email sevice and web browsing. Just a word of advise though, there is a new tour coming out very soon and it has all the abilities of this one, but includes wifi and instead of the trackball you get the trackpad!!!!

EVERYONE: they are coming out with a new phone in Jan or Feb of 2010 and it looks just like this, but it has a trackpad and WFI! It's called BLACKBERRY ESSEX! :)

I prefer the Bold still, I think. I know it is bigger, but I prefer the look and feel of it. In terms of keyboards, I might like the Tour's keyboard better than the Bold's, but I still prefer the Curve 8900's keyboard to either of the others. The Tour has about 111MB of free storage space, not as much as the Bold.

You have to pay for a data plan for all BlackBerry phones. 3G just means that the data is faster.

Not sure exactly. Certainly they make concessions, seeing as a BlackBerry is virtually castrated without email. I think the cheaper plans just give you unlimited email, while the more expensive ones have internet data inlcuded. My unlimited email plan comes with 3GB mandatory data, and this is heavily discounted.

hardware? apart from the blackberry itself? all you need is the device, charger, usb cable, headphones, micro SD card, and a case for your device. luckily, all this comes in the box, so apart from a voice/data plan, you're set!

I'm not an expert on such things, but I don't believe that generally you can move the OS from one device to another. If AT&T/RIM ever offer 4.7, then sure, but otherwise I would expect that you won't be able to upgrade. It is possible to load OS versions from other carriers, though, so if somebody else offers the bold with 4.7, that might be possible.

@joesta19 Verizon is on a totally different network (CDMA) AT&T and T-Mobile are GSM. Im not sure if you'll be able get data on it. You shoulda done your homework before unlocking it.....or gone with the a GSM Blackberry phone (Curve 8900,8520, Bold, Bold 9700,etc...)

Any problem would have been from my trying to type by looking into a video camera display instead of at the phone. It's hard to type with the camcorder sitting between you and the phone.

I think everybody is looking over the Blackberry's because of all the Android phones coming out now a days. But truth is I love my blackberry & I wouldn't trade it for anything.. I freaking hate android phones

does anyone know how to get the internet. my friend unlocked a verizon 9630 and is trying to use it on at&t, and i unlocked a us cellular 9630 for t-mobile and for some reason we cannot get internet on it. idk about his, but my phone doesn't even show there's internet on it. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!
