Great entry level but that's all. Abysmal battery, minuscule onboard storage (you needed an SD card). It was... A phone. And did some Smartphone things but nothing particularly very well. But for the price you couldn't complain much

Watched the BlackBerry movie today, then went down a rabbit hole watching old Blackberry Storm and then G1 videos. Crazy seeing how much the world has changed in just a few years. “Geeks” like this who built huge companies like Google and RIM aren’t in the public eye as much anymore. Google and Apple are now huge monoliths and perfectly branded marketing machines that pump out the same candy bar style phone year after year. There’s still a little innovation that shows its head once in a while, like the Moto or Samsung flip phones, but nothing like the crazy phones of the 2000’s. Grateful to be alive during this era to see and experience technology evolving faster than any time in history. Now with GPT 4 and AI on the Pixel and iPhone 16, where will everything go from here? Will tech continue to make everyone more connected while still making us feel more alone than ever before? Suicide rates and people reporting feeling isolated and depressed eerily continue to rise as technology makes it easier to connect with anyone in the world. Video calling via phone is normalized in most countries with adequate bandwidth, yet you don’t hear reports of people feeling more connected to their families or friends; many still text each other… tech from the 80s/90’s. A strange but unsurprising trend is Gen Z kids seeking “dumb phones” like the Boox or Lightphone. Are we self correcting our isolating behaviors as a species in defiance or numbness of advancements like AI? Looking forward to the next few decades if I’m lucky enough to still be alive. If you’re reading this in 2024 or later -> ✌️✌️

Amazing how after 14 years of this video, how those user-features and underlying tech is more than just a memory. May be in another 10 years some people will wonder what all these devices like smartphones was all about, when communication chips embedded inside people would communicate with each other 😅
