Along with Townes and Guy Clark one of the great American songwriters, but when you see him live and close you realize he's also a stunningly talented guitar player.

I just saw him last night at the Fine Line in Minneapolis and said the same thing. His guitar solo's are very, very good.

I love his guitar playing. He has what I think of as a "jangly" construction of picked notes and strummed chords. It is melodic and rhythmic in a way that is unique in spite of nothing being possibly new under the sun.

I hope this man never runs out of stories to put to music. Peace!

If you've never seen James McMurtry live, do yourself a favor and GO. You will not regret it.

It says a lot about the state of the world when great artists and songs like this get little attention.....while pure garbage racks up millions of views.
