Blackie your definitely onto something here, the functionality and purpose is becoming more clearer, also it looks more like a dual purpose scout pack. There is a military Swiss pack that is close to what your working with. Enjoying the journey! Looking forward to hear you and Dans dialogue, that would definitely stimulate ideas from your audience listening to the culmination of both of your experiences !

This message is not going to be much help... I just wanted to say that I'm really glad you are putting out your videos. I'm in the middle of moving from Kodiak, Alaska, to West Virginia, by way of upstate NY. I'm in a motel, in Buffalo, Wyoming, tonight, unable to sleep, and dead-dog tired. You're a welcome voice in these situations. Almost home-folks. I always check for your videos, and nights like this, they're really appreciated. You're a very good teacher. But besides that, just a comforting voice and presence, a friend in a tough time. You are appreciated, sir. Thank you, and take care.

Seems like your doing an excellent job in considering various options in your design concept. This is a big project with the potential to result in a totally new type of modular bag/pack combination. Thanks for taking us along! - Tennessee Smoky

You could mount one or two d-rings at the fixed end of the strap on a stock haversack and attach it to corresponding d-rings on the overnight r with captive soft shackles. I really like the cinch cord. Maybe you could use the "wings" (small flaps) to attach an axe hanger to the side of the pack.

1. Use 2 lobster claws to 'D'rings to attach the haversack to overnight bag. 2 instead of a complete 2d tarp, carry a 'stip' of tarp to add on to the tarp for the exta room. With an overlap. Like adding a wall to a marquee. 3 yes leave the flap on the overnighter. This will keep it as an independent pack. 4. I like a cross chest strap to keep the carry straps from spreading apart.

Blackie , Thanks for keeping us up on the R&D on the Over Nighter . I really like the way you think outside the box and looking to improve and make things better. I planing on getting one of yours Black Bird on the next run. Thanks For Passing on The Knowledge, You Are The Master Woodsman and Bushcrafter. Tim L.

One thought may be to sew “belt loops” around the back where you ran your cinch cord and weave the BBHS strap thru the loops and then secure with your current double D rings. Then your standard BBHS can be used with zero modifications…. Sort of like the flap attachment on the WWI haversack…

Since you're losing the belt you were planning on having from modifying the haversack strap, why not add some belt loops in the backside of the overnighter so that you could run your everyday belt through it to keep it secured to your back? Also if your normal haversack had the 10 C's why would you need to duplicate those items in the overnighter? I would use the overnighter as a supplement to the haversack to carry the extra gear you'd need that isn't typically carried in the haversack. Can't wait to see what comes of this. Looks like you're onto something great. I like the crowd sourced definition of this bag design. 👍🏻

Im thinking one way to attach the regular Haversack to the new knapsack would be to slide a fastek buckle ( two) on the Haversack strap ...slide one all the way to where the strap attachment is on the bag and another positioned so when the strap is connected to bag it is located as near to the opposite end of strap close to where it attaches to bag so kinda one on each corner. Then have the mating half of fastek sewn to your new knapsack in a position strap thr two on tgr Haversack can clip to the knapsack. Another thought is just to use the strap and d rings on haversack ...seperate strap from d- ring,then put corresponding short strap and d-ring on knapsack so you thread the long Haversack strap through a pair of d-rings on one side ( edge) of knapsack and then thread the short strap on knapsack ( opposite edge) through the d-rings on haversack. Just tuck the longer excess Haversack strap into bag after its passed through the knapsack d-rings.

Love the process, thanks for the reasoning in the process. Now I wish I had the haversack to give more relevant input. Don't worry though ( just incase you do) I will still have input, HAH. Shoot it down with reasoning and I will learn along with everyone. FANDAMNTASTIC PROCESS. So how about this, Make the Overnight bag fit the Haversack inside. Or Why not attach the haversack to the original Overnight bag cover flap. Then you still have 2 separate bags with flip over covers, and still one. 2 is one 1 is None?? Thanks Blackie

Maybe attach the "overnighter" to the blackbird, instead of modifying the blackbird . Put straps and/or clips on the on the overnighter that clip or hook to the D rings already on the blackbird.
@rulrich453 жыл бұрын
Have you considered a series of loops, similar to PALS webbing, on the back of the pack and the top of the haversack. You could then thread your strap through the loops, feed it through the D rings, and put the excess inside the pack.
@rulrich453 жыл бұрын
Oops, I just saw that others have already suggested loops. Although I visualized 1" nylon loops, rather than belt loops. I guess either would work.
@jasonshepherd68643 жыл бұрын
I like this idea. Have you considered a Russian veshmeshok or sidor bag as the main pocket? The straps aren't padded the best but we're not through hiking.
