Dude I know this is two years old but I'm just discovering it, and you are just the best simmer on youtube by a long way. I noticed you don't have a patreon, AND your A320 knowledge is pro, so you are a pilot yes? Also, briefly, what is the advantage of track/fpa vs. just using the flight director?
@Blackbox7116 жыл бұрын
Hi. Yes I am a pilot and am rated on the A320. The FPV has the advantage that it shows the flightpath angle irrespective of the wind influences. Hence when you fly a procedure with a given flightpath angle, it is easier to follow that path with the FPA. If you were using the FD with Vertical Speed mode, you need to calculate the required descent rate yourself. And depending on the present groundspeed this could change rapidly sometime.
@AviationHubOfficial6 жыл бұрын
That's so well explained! Makes total sense to me now. Thanks alot for your reply! Much appreciated.

Hi! Your videos are very instructive, thank you very much! However I wasn't able to find the answer of a question that I have in mind for a long time.. I did a lot of research on it but I still didn't understand it, even with your video: My question is about the "bird" which appears on the PFD when you select TRK/FPA on the FCU. I'm actually reading everywhere that it is easy and nice to fly the Airbus in TRK/FPA mode, but I don't understand how are you supposed to fly manually with this mode ? I firstly thought that I had to follow the "bird" on the PFD, as when you follow the cross (on the PFD with HDG/VS mode), but it doesn't seem that you're following it during the final approach ? Thus, what does this 'bird' indicates on the PFD and which information can we take from it in order to fly manually ? I hope I was clear, thanks for the videos though ! ;)
@Blackbox7118 жыл бұрын
Hi torderuder. Thank you. The "bird" ( Flight Path Vector) is just an indication of the aircrafts flightpath. So for example if I adjust the pitch to set the bird directly on the PFD horizon I achieve level flight. If I am flying a raw data ILS for example I can adjust the pitch of the aircraft to set the bird at -3 degrees and can easily stay on the glide profile (assuming it is the standard 3 degree glide). So the bird helps me to easily see the the actual flightpath in regard to the pitch. Also the difference between the pitch indicator (little square between the wings on the PFD) and the bird gives you the angle of attack. Hope my answer helps? Regards and happy landings.

Hello Blackbox, I know this video has been up for a long time, but I just had a question. I hope you get a chance to answer. Question: Since this approach is being flown with a constant descent angle with no level-off at the MDA, do you add 50 feet to the MDA so that the aircraft will not descent below the MDA in the event of a missed approach? Thanks, and happy holidays...I'm a big fan, and refer to your videos often!
@Blackbox7115 жыл бұрын
Hi. No, there is no addition to the MDA. That is the altitude at which the decision to continue or GA is made. In case you do a GA, a slight dip below MDA is tolerable and accounted for.

Siegi 658 . I am a little bit in confusion: VOR Approach sinks automatically at FAP. Fixing the FPA is in my opinion only necessesary if you fly a LOC Approach, and that 0.3 nm before the FAP. Both are non precission approaches, with track and bird.
@Blackbox7115 жыл бұрын
There are several different ways to fly a Non-Precision Approach. Either fully managed mode or selected mode. Depending on which of those you use, the final descent happens automatically or not.
@spitfireinvasion7 жыл бұрын
Servus! when you were assigned your "virtual approach clearance" to turn to heading 020, you selected "TRK/FPA" and proceeded to fly on track 020. with the wind only at 8 knots, that very closely corresponds to HDG 020. however, in conditions with more wind, on stormy days or jus on a regular basis in windy areas, e.g. Hamburg, ATC will issue a HDG intercept clearance corrected for wind. so, where atc would usually assign HDG 280, cleared ILS 25, they might use HDG 305 for the same runway on a day with winds at 360° with 50 knots at intercept altitude. if, in that case, you decide to switch to TRK/FPA mode this early, and fly on track 305, this could possibly result in a far to steep interception, lack of spacing behind you or even a loss of seperation to other approaching aircraft, since ATC anticipates you to fly a track of around 280, not 305. i would suggest to pay close attention when switching modes this early and to be sure to continue to fly the assigned HDG, using the yellow strip on the MFD, instead of flying the corresponding track indicated by the green trapezoid. nevertheless, thanks for the high quality videos, they are a great help in flying the simulated airbus!! :) ;)

If you are high on profile. What is your “rule of thumb” to get back on profile? i.e you are 300’ above profile what FPA would you dial the correct the situation?
@Blackbox711 Жыл бұрын
Usually you wouldn’t get 300 ft above the profile. If you do you would need to aggressively correct that deviation. So depending on the aircraft height you have certain maximum possible descent rates. In FPA terms that would mean around 4 to 5 degrees depending on the height.
@jesse00pno4 жыл бұрын
Is it normal for the aircraft to be so far off the centerline with NPA’s? I know NPA stands for NON-Precision Approach, but it seemed like the aircraft was a long way from the centerline and a large course correction was necessary. This would explain why minimums are much higher for NPA’s, but it still seemed a large distance to me. Thank you!

Actually when do you start to activate approach phase for selected vor approach , on what dme before approach fix , i really have a hard time on my training in airline
@Blackbox7118 жыл бұрын
Hi Fariz. The really important thing is to know that once you activate the approach phase and you are in managed speed mode, the commanded speed will drop down to Vapp and the aircraft will initially decelerate to green dot speed. So make sure you then do selected speed on the FCU if you want to fly at a certain speed. So the activation of the approach phase does not depend on a certain DME but depends on which commanded speed you want to fly. Maybe I should do a video on this to clarify it. Regards

is this possible with rnav approaches ? or do we need some ground aids to use this trk/fpa mode ??
@Blackbox7118 жыл бұрын
Hi Jaffer. Whenever using the TRK/FPA mode due to the fact that you cannot use the RNAV function (GPS RNAV Approach or RNAV-Overlay Approach or the approach is simply not programmed in the FMS) you have to be able to crosscheck the altitude and the correct tracking. So yes, then you need ground aids tuned. For the "raw data" VOR Apporach in EDDF 07R you need the VOR (for tracking) and the DME (for altitude crosscheck).Regards

Is there another video that you do the same procedure? extended centerline during approach?
@capt.malayali46137 жыл бұрын
Matheus A320 To extend the centerline we need to sequence the flight plan by using DIRECT TO RADIAL IN

If you press DIR then select waypoint then enter value in Radial In and insert it the FCU will change from HDG mode and turn towards the waypoint won't it?

Could you intercept the vor for landing by using the dir to FFM and radial in 246° or do you have to do it "manually"?
@Blackbox7118 жыл бұрын
Hi Dolphin. If you use the FFM/radial in on the FMS you just program your own approach, which you are not supposed to do. Usually you select the correct stored approach in the FMS and do not change any of the programmed waypoints from the FAWP (Final Approach Waypoint) to the runway. So either fly the approach raw data (selecting the FFM VOR in the RAD NAV page and setting the inbound course there) and use the VOR Rose Mode. Or you fly it like it is shown in this video. Regards

Hi, which version of MFS are you using ? And the Addon also ? I got the MFS 2020 but the A320 is not fully functional. I have to use MFS X Steam Edition but it was not the best, since the addon for Airbus is quite old and I can not waste money on something that I don't know about.

The FSLabs A320-X series is for FSX and Prepar3d, although the newer versions only run with Prepar3d.

question : when on an intercept heading, and the radual becomes alive, how long or at what point do I start turning to establish on the final track, also do I adjust for wind, or just set inbound track please sir can you do a video, on how to fly a dome arc selected selected please ...
@greasemonk37344 жыл бұрын
The intercept heading should be given depending on you angle of interception. Bear in mind the distance to the FDP also, as you need to be on TRK before reaching FDP. Approaching Half a scale needle deflection is ideally the time you set your inbound track. Wind correction is required. Using the ROSE NAV mode is indeed very helpful.

Wouldn't it be easier if we used ILS during landing?

Not all runways have an ILS

Anybody here with some tricks on how to intercept a radial/heading/loc as he did? Still struggling on when to start turning!

Hi there, I was wondering why we'd need to monitor the tracking course once you've intercepted the final VOR radial? Sometimes it's 65, 66 or other but I thought that the goal of track is having the plane fly the 66° course by itself. Also, I have the mfs standard xbox version, and I do set the course and frequency of the approach VOR and do track the final course as well but the plane sometimes deviates from the course by itself, would there be any reason for that? Lastly, you mention that the plane can use NAV or Final App function to bring me on the final VOR approach? For NAV, I thought that as we get closer to the VOR (

Well, Airbus procedures these days say the FD may remain ON as long as they show sensible flight guidance. Below MDA they would be switched off when using FPA mode. The video was made a long time ago. Not sure what procedure we had back then.

I found it a great video but in a learning base I think we the most are here you were to fast to explain certain points and why you were doing that. More explanatory and slow (click here) video will do the best for we the newbies get the idea!

wow non-precision approach is really not precise...
@Blackbox7117 жыл бұрын
+dokei dejital .. depends on the approach. Or were you being sarcastic?
@nokonoko9837 жыл бұрын
ok i was not understanding it was offset approach. but why is it being offset? you switched to manual before minimum but if not, its even harder to align with runway right? anyway thanks for great videos
@Blackbox7117 жыл бұрын
+dokei dejital .. thank you. It is offset because the inbound course does not equal the runway track. Once you are in visual contact with the runway you should fly manually in order to align with the runway. Happy Landings 👍🏼
