Blackbriar is so underrated, Zora is such an amazing artist with a unique voice, Arms of the Ocean is one of their best songs, if you want to hear what a siren of the sea sounds like, listen to that song.

Thanks again for the reaction. The name of the singer is Zora Cock. She writes all the songs for Blackbriar. I think a skinchanger is someone who can take off her seal skin and become human. When the sealskin is worn she transforms in a true seal.

One of my favorite bands. I remember when their video for Until Eternity had just 5,000 views... One of those 5,000 happened to be a friend of mine, who flipped out and begged for a copy of Blackbriar's Fractured Fairytales EP for her birthday when I shared their Facebook post. 🌚 So I ended up with *two* handwritten notes from Zora thanking me for my crowdfunding investment. Haven't had enough to buy their last couple albums, though I will just as soon as I'm able...

Selkies are women and men who are sea animal skin walkers. Once a year they come upon shore, strip their skin and become human. They cannot turn back into a seal when someone takes their skin. This song is about a man who falls for a selkie, steals her skin and forces her to be his wife for years; until she finds her skin and leaves. He couldn't deal with the heartbreak, so he chose to jump off into the sea to be with her, thus ending his own life.

In some versions of the tale, the Selkie longed to return to the sea because she already had a family in the sea that the man stole her away from. After she found her pelt and fled, the Selkie came to the man in his dreams and told him that although she did care for him; that he should not chase after her and to never bring harm to her selkie husband and pups. The man became angry by this, and gathered a party of men to hunt the selkie's family down and took her husband's head and the flippers of her pups as trophies. This enraged the Selkie, and she came to the man and cursed him with longing that would drive him to jump off the cliffs of Orkney, and that other men would follow by randomly falling off the cliffs until the dead could join hand in hand and encircle the island. To this day, residents of the Orkney Islands blame people dying in cliff accidents to the curse of the Selkie.
