Watch and listen to Festus at the controls at 17.10....murder. No other sound could touch Coxson back in the day. Mid 70's to mid 80's. The very best era for reggae music

This video brings back great memories. 1981 being a teenager getting ready to go out on a Saturday night while listening to Rodigan between 10pm and Midnight. Then go out (even walk/ trod sometimes with friends) to dances or parties in the south London area. Be obsessed with DJs like Ranking Joe, Yellowman, General Echo, Nicodemus, Lone Ranger, Trinity etc, spend most Saturday afternoons in the record shop and get many cassette tapes from sound systems like Jack Ruby, Gemini, Sturgav, Virgo etc. Of course, there was crime, but I don't think it was as much as nowadays because we were having fun with music, girls and sport which looking back kept me and many others out of trouble. Now I have a grey beard, but I still have the original music vibes and classic some vinyl 7"singles by Dennis Brown, Freddie McGregor, Gregory Issacs, Johnny Osbourne and others.

I will never forget this era! 2023 & I still live it, breathe it, eat & sleep this music and can not go without my Sunday dinner ❤️❤️❤️❤️ Shit just ain't the same without these don’s, ma brothers around like one time! Thank you to all these kings & general who made our youth a memorable one! Full of fun and good times! Although every Saturday and Sunday I was woken up from 6 in the morning because it was domino night. We had to set up the home, clean and cook fi di whole squad I use to love but hate it because I wanted to go about my business. Now, I appreciate every single moment. My children are some real roots and reggae yutes. Today they understand it all you would think they were born dem time deh. Lolz. Much love and appreciation! Have to share this with ma old school head goodies❤️❤️❤️❤️🎵🎶

This is not a dis to new modern systems... but something got lost in how they sound. Now most new systems sound like a pa system, not a soundsystem. Small details like when Lloyd Coxone talks about all the wires being strung up that you would see going to the box's, all that created atmosphere. I find standing next to a modern stack punishing, not because the bass is too heavy, but because they work the low mid and kick bins too hard. I don't want to be kicked by that frequency because its tiring. Give me low deep, heavy bass, a gap, then your mid an ting. These are subtle things that together make a big difference. When the music hits, i don't want to feel no pain.

To provide a lickle context to what your saying here, new sound have lost the essence and rely too much on pre-existing hardware from manufacturers. I also see new sound using DSP and whilst the sound is clean, it's void of any character which is the uniqueness of old sounds. Old sounds use what they could get their hands on, often times the choice of wood for the speaker boxes, the design, the woofer, horns etc they weren't matched pairs and it wasn't an exact science. You used what you could get and what made each sound unique was all these small nuances.
@melodysouljahrootsdubpress5539
@melodysouljahrootsdubpress5539 4 ай бұрын
@@EBSELPROAUDIO true 👍. Basically many younger sounds didn't really get a chance to hear the original systems. Sure they love reggae but come from a pa based experience. So they don't know that a pre amp can and should be used like a musical instrument in its own right. In fact, the uniqueness of the pre is often negated by "corrected" by an lms. They tend to "set" the pre and leave it. I loved the way old systems differed. Thats been lost now and everyone sounds the same. Except for my lovely valve driven system. And that threatens likkle sound bwoys.....

You guys and more of your generation taught future generations how to drop music. Like many things from our people that have been imitated by other cultures, the recipients haven’t a clue about its origins✊🏿.

I remember Sir Coxsone Sound in London Town late 1970s. It was a fantastic time. Big bins blasting out the sounds from dub plates. Version excursions. DJs on the mics. The 1970s and the 1980s were halcyon days. Singers and Players. There was a lot of soul in the sounds. When it became too digitised the music lost its way..

Wicked indeed! Unfortunately the dub version we are hearing is an original dub worked by FESTUS himself. If you buy the Max 12" This version will not be on it since it is exclusive and never released. Festus is a PURE GENIUS. I would dare say he was better than Jammy's and The SCIENTIST because he knew how to transition the musical instruments better on the fly creating a natural vibe..... which Jammy's and Scientist were not as good at. If you listen to how RAW Festus version is and the style and art, you can really hear the diffeence. A lot of those Original Coxsone dubs would make a fortune if they were pressed up and released today!!!!
