As a proud MT boy, Veteran and Sioux, I’m very pleased to see the buffalo roaming the plains once again. Buffalo was a way of life. The significance of buffalo played a part in my very existence. It gave plains Indians refuge by supplying all of our necessary survival needs like tools, clothing, shelter, and food. Buffaloes were our key to survival. Especially in brutally, harsh cold winters which are well known in Montana and the Dakota’s. My reservation is located in Eastern MT. our tribe first brought buffalo home roughly 10 yrs ago. Our buffaloes’ DNA lineage is 100% pure. Many confuse buffalo and bison as the same just like the gentleman shown from California. Bison means its not pure bred. It just means a buffalo has been bred with a form of cattle (Bull/cow) over the years. Whichever the case I strongly support saving the Buffalo. Buffalo once saved us from dying out as a people, it’s only right that we return the favor by helping them survive on too. Hokeshina wast'e oyate, pidamiya!!!

Would like to add that it's not only great for the Blackfeet indians and their history, etc., but also a great thing for an animal that, like all animals, deserves a place in Nature and has a right to live.

My mother and her mother and my fathers mother and her mother on both sides were mixed with half Cherokee Tribe and my other ancestry is Old Irish ☘️ but never Catholic according to Grandpa. My blood is rich with the people who were both pushed off their lands. My fathers people forced out of Ireland and my moms people forced out of the eastern half of USA. But the Scots Irish and Cherokee mix very good and I’m retired now waiting for my Messiah.

Not only were the Buffalo the physical center of the survival of the Blackfeet, but also a spiritual being for them and every life of a Buffalo was honored for its sacrifice. I’m so grateful for the people who saved them over a hundred years ago!

You all should listen to the story of the white buffalo. Very interesting part of Native American Culture. I first heard it from David Paulides.

The truth about buffaloes and bisons:Though the terms are often used interchangeably, buffalo and bison are distinct animals. Old World “true” buffalo (Cape buffalo and water buffalo) are native to Africa and Asia. Bison are found in North America and Europe. Both bison and buffalo are in the bovidae family, but the two are not closely related.
